What Kind Of Power Steering Fluid Should I Get
« on: April 18, 2010, 04:55:22 AM »
I did a search and didnt find exactly what I was looking for. At the MM7 I will be having DDM do their power steering relocation kit and was wondering what type of power steering fluid should I buy to replace it.

Red Line power steering fluid. A lot of people that autocross have a problem with power steering noise after runs. It's sort of a moaning sound. This comes from the fluid getting hot and frothing up. The relocation of the reservoir will help with the heat load by getting away from the turbo. The Redline fluid will raise the level of temperature resistance to the point will it won't froth up. VERY good stuff.

I switched over to Redline also.  More so for the sub 30F whining that is gone.  :)

Is there a process to flush the system of the old fluid before you replace it? Maybe in another thread?

Just undo the lines at the rack (the front ones). Some of the fluid will drain out of the reservoir and rack. When fluid stops draining, run the steering full left and right a few times. If there is any fluid left in the reservoir, remove it with a suction bulb or something like that. Reconnect the lines, and fill the reservoir. As it drains into the system, add more. Then start the engine, fill as needed, run the steering full lock a few times, and fill as needed. Done.

IIRC, I asked either Advance or Oreilly's to order a couple bottles for me. In any event, Google it. The stuff is worth the trouble.

Is this worthwhile for a cruiser or just for race?

Critter,

Please accept my appologies.  I had temporarily forgotten my place.  I assure you it will not happen again.  I just purchased 87 gallons of the specified Power Steering Fluid as instructed.

GJ think you can spare a quart or two for me?  Pretty please?  I won't give you a hard time for a full five minutes, starting four and a half minutes ago.

You'll have to come to the SMMM to get yours, he's packing that instead of clothes.

That was just about enough incentive to get me to go...until I read that last part.  I've seen pictures of him sober I can't/don't want to see him NAK3D.

SA,
It will be ok.  I called the airline and they said I had to wear clothes on the plane, so I will have something on.  Can't say what I will look / smell like after a few days, especially considering I am sleeping in Go-n-Def's car.  I'm hoping some of the Poorboys cleaners / waxes will keep me feeling fresh.
