Topic: 2006 2.4 exhaust manifold snapping bolts

Having son install my Solo header and cat this morning, he found two of the bolts had snapped off some time ago. Hoping the Solo header can handle the heat that the stock mani couldn't...anyone else run into this??

I replaced mine a while back, but didn't have any issues that I know off.  Some of the turbo boys have had issues between the cat and turbo, but no N/A's that I know of.

Well, he got one of them out, not easy, but the other one is the furthest front top one, and he couldn't get to it to get it out. Cracks on the inside, also. Will have to get the O2 bung relocated when I get home, lasted all of maybe 8 miles till the CEL lit up

Another ?, the heat coming off the header seemed to be heating up the engine cover excessively, so rather than have melted plastic, cover's riding shotgun.

That could be due to the related broken bolts and exhaust leaks.

Are the bolt torque specs posted somewhere on this website?  If not then a set of bolt torque specs that might be a great resource for many projects.  Humm, where to start?  Taking requests? Compile a list, make it a sticky?

10 foot pounds on an N/A or just a little past snug

AR - Joe was referring to extra heat coming off the side of the engine caused by the exhaust leaking past the manifold

Yea I got the extra heat with the leaking exh manifold, however the plastic cover was on, with that stock 'heatshield' above the manifold, and not hot. With the header installed, no leaks, the amount of heat coming off it seemed higher than the stock manifold, the plastic cover onthat side was hot after only a few minutes of a test drive. So it was yanked off, and tossed in the car

Did you get the headers coated?  Something like Jet-hot, the coatings are designed to keep the heat inside the header and not pass it to the engine compartment.  I have Jet-hot on my header and I can touch it right after I shut the engine down, I can grab it within 5 minutes.

GM specs for manifold to head fasteners are 10lbft for the LNF, and 37lbft for the LE5. Sequence is important too.

When you get the broken stud removed you might want to get it done, it will cut down on the heat in the engine compartment.

same thing happened to an LNF GT here in Greece. the driver was hearing a weird sound and the datalogs were showing crazy things....finally he checked at the garage and they came up with some bolts from the manifold that were loose.
