Another engine code after SC install
« on: June 21, 2010, 06:54:45 PM »
Happened twice since Viper/Kappa cruise this weekend - once on the way home & once today, both under hard acceleration in upper RPM range & full boost:

P0300 - randon/multiple cylinder misfire detected. Both times seemed to be running fine.  :idk:
I'll start here, will give Randy / Dave a call also.

I'm starting to believe a lot of the issues are caused by the eathonal in the gas.  My car has not given me a problem since Ohio where they have real gas.

I'm sure Dave/Randy will have some good input, wondering did you replace the plugs with S/C install. I know that DDM usually puts in Iridium plugs with the S/C when they do the install.  If you installed a K&N air filter coincident with the S/C then there is always the issue of oil contaminating the MAF,  pulling that and cleaning with a alcohol based cleaner will do the trick. Over oiling the K&N filters on an install seems to often lead to problems on the MAF.

As a side note regarding gas I know Dave recommends using 91+ octane with the S/C.

DDM did include new iridium plugs which I installed with the SC kit.
Just cleaned the MAF with the CRC MAF cleaner today (was kind of thinking the same thing/hoping).

I'm starting to wonder/suspect the stock CAT, but it has been ok up until now including 5 full out runs at the drag strip.  :idk:

Joe,

Is the spark plug regap recommended for all?  I can't remember if I've asked this before.  But I know I haven't done it.

Thanks,
GJ

A little more info, both times this happened it was 95+ degres outside & engine temp was a little over 200F. Ran it up hard twice this morning on the way to work & no problem.

Chatted with Mr.Baja this morning, looks like his ECM is still doing some tweaking with the hotter weather, but we have him monitoring just to make sure.

Has the spark plug gap recommendation changed since the first stage II kits? What should it be?
I've had an occasional "code" but it was after extended idling. It clears itself.
