Add me to the List - car hit from behind
« on: June 25, 2010, 09:52:57 AM »
Got in a 3 car accident.
I was stopped, the car behind me was stopped
The car behind her was not stopped

Boom  Boom Fawk!!

I got hit square on the license plate.  The trunk is slightly misaligned.  [Was perfect due to Randy@DDM fixing it just 2 weeks ago at Nationals!!!!]
and I have some minor damage to the rear bumper  and stock rear valance.  [Fortunately I did not have Norms Fascia on the car]

It drives fine although the alignment felt out of whack.  Really need to get the rear bumper off to see what happened underneath it.
Doors work and line up fine, so this should just be an aggravation and nothing to worry about.
Due to parts being an issue, I am hoping they can just repaint and realign.
 :gaah:

Sorry to hear about another KAPPA getting "slightly" crushed.  Cannot count on both hands how many times I have had to drive aggressively to avoid getting squished. Best of luck in your repairs!!!

Best of luck.  Any Photo's?  especially of the car that hit the car that hit you?  Just so we can all avoid being in front of them at a stop light...

Glad everyone is ok.

None at the moment.

THANKFULLY I did not have either the new or original fascia from Norm.
That would have sucked.

So I get home and I have a nice big box from Norm.
Talk about timing.
I am sooooo Glad I didn't get it early.

Inspecting the rear of the car, the gap between the rear bumper and trunk is definitely wider than it was and the lines between the rear bumper and quarter panel now have spaces at the top.
So it looks like the entire bumper got pushed/rotated down.

Hopefully that bumper took the brunt of the damage and everything underneath is in good shape.

I'm really not that worried.
The car drives great so there can't be anything structurally wrong.
and worst case scenario is I need 1 bumper and the mounting hardware.

Aside from the scrapes on the paint, anyone who doesn't own our car, probably wouldn't notice anything until I point it out.
That's going to be the fun part

There should be some styrofoam-type material behind the bumper cover that absorbed most of the force of the impact.  That's its job.  It's only good for one hit, though.  It will likely need to be replaced.  Get an estimate from a good body shop!

I have a great body shop which is why I'm not worried.
They have done a bunch of the Black highlights I have on my white sky.
They are very particular to detail.
I have some additional stuff I am going to have them do while the car is down to eliminate some Vinyl.
All in all this really isn't that bad of a bad thing.
Just pushed up the time frame of some stuff I wanted done.
My Cobalt handles will be given to them.  :)

Glad you are OK elff.
My Daily driver (not the GXP) got totaled a couple of weeks ago.
I was hit by an F150 with a winch in the front of his bumper, the whole trunk of my car is plaster against the back seat of the car.
This was a four door car and the back doors cannot be open and the 2 front doors have to be push hard to get them open.
I am glad this accident did not happen when driving my GXP on the weekends.
I am sure if this would have been the case, not  sure if I could be typing this right now.
I hate insurance companies, specially Allstate (the other drivers insurance Co.). Although my 2004 car is totaled Allstate only wants to pay wholesale for the car.
Now I have to get a lawyer to fight this mess.
Solstice GXP 2007.
