A/C Problems
« on: August 12, 2010, 01:10:13 PM »
Well my girlfriend and I went to a concert the other day. And I always seem to learn something about my car on long trips, this was no exception. On the way back, I was dying of heat, and she was freezing, as is the norm with guys and girls and AC. After turning the ac on and off and on and off, we finally moved the knob to somewhere in between. Well. It turns out, that on any setting, other than the absolute coldest, my car blows in heat. And I mean HEAT. At first it was just hot, so we left in on for about thirty seconds more, then my girlfriend put her hand to the vent to see if it had gotten warmer, and she burnt herself on the plastic. Mind you, this is one tick above coldest. And I know the AC isn't broken, because it blows really cold air really fast, but theres no in between. Has this happened to anyone or are there any ideas to fix it? I live in Florida, which is usually extreme cold or hot, and I'm excited the heat works well for winter, but it still bothers me. I would just take it to the dealer right off the bat, but my bumper to bumper warranty expired about a month ago.

I have had this happen when the temperature on the DIC reads - - -.
Scroll through the options and make sure your temperature is registering.

Good luck figuring it out and let us know the resolution.

Turn the first knob on the left all the way to the right, second know all the way to the right, last knob (on the right) all the way to the left.  Turn the ignition on, don't start the car.  When all the lights flash, the A/C is set.  It should work fine then.

Two possibilities... air in the cooling system (many posts on this).  OR (hopefully) your A/C control just needs to be resynced.  Again there's posts on this - unfortunately I'm away from home so can't give you the direct links...

Maybe some other kind soul can help with them?

UPDATE: Darn it cross posted with the critter :)

Almost all of it Critterman but it is missing a part of the test

here is the complete procedure

Quote from: How to reset temp controls
Subject: HVAC Improper Mode/Temperature Operation
Models: 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described.

Condition/Concern:
If you encounter a Solstice/Sky HVAC system that has erratic operation of the Mode door or the Temperature door, you may need to Re-synchronize the HVAC system.
Recommendation/Instructions:To Re-synchronize the HVAC you will need to follow the below steps.

1. Turn the key to the run position (Engine NOT running)

2. Turn the first HVAC knob (Temperature dial) all the way to the right

3. Turn the second HVAC knob (Blower dial) all the way to the right

4. Turn the third HVAC knob (Mode position) all the way to the LEFT

5. Now push in on the first knob (temp dial) and the third knob (Mode) at the same time and hold down until the LED's start to flash.

You will notice the HVAC system will now begin to run through all the modes and Re-synchronize both Temperature and Mode door.

Thanks for posting that, DBG. I'm going to try this if and when I have this problem again. I'm even going to make a cheat sheet to put in the manual.

Well Joe, I at least had something to say that was sorta helpfull.  Last week I probably would have remembered the entire procedure, but I am getting older and forget things.

True, but some of us had to work up to a supervisory role.  At least that's the story I'm telling, and I am sticking to it!

Your still young Forrest, the rest of us are so used to the mother/girlfriend/wife rolling their eyes thing that we don't even notice it anymore.  But its still always nice when we prove them wrong, and they know it.

Yeah they're about 12-18 inches above where you normally look, unless she is of mature years then you may have to look higher.
