:barf: Didn't fare too bad, considering.  No airbag deployment, and the damage is limited to the hood, bumper cover, and a chip on the door where the hood contacted it.  That Fk-er sailed right over me.  By the time I saw it coming, I was hearing the crunch.  Didn't even register what happened until I recognized it as a deer overhead.  I'll consider myself lucky that I didn't get a hoof through the windshield.

Anyone in my area know of any good body shops?

Hey, deer season doesn't open till the 15th... :P

That sucks man, but sounds like you got off easy. Hopefully everything gets fixed quickly.

Now for the important questions...doe or buck? If it was a buck, how many points? :D

Doe, not a very big one, either.  Probably would have dressed out at around 120.  Somehow I knew these questions would be coming from you, Phil

After I turned around, two smaller ones crossed the road about 100 yards down the hill.  I thought they had spots, but it's too late in the year for that, isn't it?  Either way, I'm pretty sure I killed Bambi's mom.

So glad you're okay. You can fix stuff, it's harder to fix people.

I'm sure the Maryland folks can recommend a good body shop.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Sorry about that but glad you're OK and damage is no worse.  The deer are getting thick around here - they are getting hard to miss.

You had me pegged right, I picked up my hunting license yesterday. I wouldn't be too sure about the deer kicking the bucket, I've heard of them surviving bumps far worse than that appears to have been.

I drove by later on, she's still in the ditch.  Called animal control after it happened, and they referred me to the sherriff's office.  Apparently I left the scene of an accident...  the deputy that called me didn't seem to care.

No kiddin' about the deer getting thick around here, Treeman.  I've had at least 5 near-misses since winter that I can remember.  2 in Howard county and 3 within 5 miles of my house.  Git 'em, U!  You could probably hang out in my house and stay warm, then just open the window every once in awhile to shoot 'em as they walk by!

Not according to Maryland law lol!

This will actually be my first season hunting, been wanting to start for a while. This was the first time I managed to get into the required hunter safety class. (Not many offered, hard to get into one.)

Anyone know at what point fawns can survive on their own?

I took my Sky to an auto shop for some minor damage on the rear wheel well. He said to take care of the hood because they can't be found. Not sure how true that is.

The extremes some people will go to just to get a new hood ;)

Sorry to see/hear about your damage, but welcome to the club!

And yes, there are still deer with spots on them. I saw one yesterday but managed to avoid it :)

That is what happens when you live out in the middle of nowhere MD.  Fox in Laurel uses a body shop somewhere near Baltimore, they do excellent work.  Email me at work if you want contact information.

Opps sorry forgot to add, sorry about the car, glad you are okay.

PS.  A good ol boy would have had that sucker in the back of the car, and hanging in the garage, before you got that picture taken.

Where did it happen, on that side road to your development?

SHiNY's quote edited for accuracy:

And yes, there are still deer with spots on them. I saw one yesterday but  IT managed to avoid ME :)

2kwk,

Glad you are good to go.  Car looks drivable.  It's actually hard to notice, I'd just drive it.  It's not like you are particular about anything...  At least it didn't damage the wiring.  That would suck to re do.

If that hood out in L.A. works out and I can help in any way, let me know.  it's a few hours from me, but that is a lot closer than it is to you!

Hey, if Steve doesn't mind waiting you could bring it as your carryon luggage.  Hell you don't shower anyway, just need a dip in the Cheseapautxent

Thank you for not posting again.  Any much like your Sky, I am reworking the body so outward appearance should be different.  Perhaps MORE photos will be taken?

Got it back
« Reply #23 on: September 18, 2010, 01:23:36 PM »
Looks pretty good...  until you get close enough to see all the dust nibs/dirt/(and a pube??) in the finish.   I took advantage of the opportunity to replace the light capsules with the street edition black capsules.

Also had the T2 championship logos painted on under the clear coat.  I got sick of the stickers always looking fuzzy b/c they picked up bits of towel, and shortly after I put them on, I lost the little triangles from the middle of the "A" in SCCA on both sides (A-holes?)  I had ASAP cut them out of paint mask and gave them to the body shop.

Overall, I'm happy with the service and work the body shop did.  The body work and paint match/blend look great, and I can't find overspray anywhere.  They treated me well during and after.  I think the problem is that their detailer doesn't give much attention to detail (besides the obvious problem that they weren't careful enough to keep the booth dust-free -- sh*t happens).  There was a run in the clear right up front and center under the arrowhead.  They took it back and wet-sanded/compounded that away in the time it took me to return the rental car 4 blocks away.  When I called them Thursday about the dust nibs, they told me to give the finish a couple of weeks to harden up and bring it back in.  They'll try to de-nib it before they go through stripping and re-painting/clearing the whole hood again.

Oh yeah... and they obviously forgot to aim my headlights, as one was high and one low.
