dye boost
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:56:13 PM »
I took  the Car to the Dealer Monday.  They called me Later and I picked  it up and was told to drive it for a week with Dye in the OIL and bring back  next Tuesday. Well Today on the way home I got an engine lite and NOW only putting out ( 4 ) PSI of boost .Wondering what is causing this.     :banghead:      :idk:

Is oil coming from around the turbo area?

My wife's redline has on oil leak too.  It might drip a couple or three times overnight. Haven't figured out where it is coming from just yet.  From under the car and when looking at the drip pattern it appears to be coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment.
Last time we washed the car I noticed a bit of oil on the hood just above and to the drivers side of the oil filler cap/oil filter.  Looks kind of like a fine mist was sprayed on it over a circular area of about 2-3 inches.  Could there be a leak at the filler cap spraying a fine mist of oil?  Funny thing is it doesn't seem to be on anything but the underside of the hood in that one small area. Might have to take it to the dealer and let them find it.

Bobby,

be really careful.  You have been losing oil too fast to make it until tuesday if you drive it much.

Brazen,

a fine mist and circular pattern sounds more like a pin hole leak in a presurized hose.  It might not be enging oil.  Check all fluids.

Has anyone given any thought to the relationship between oil leaks in GXPs and Redlines and the increased pressures resulting from the GMPP upgrade?

Is it possible the 2.0 engine isn't "sealed" well enough to support the higher boost?

GMPP tune is not that hot, mine and many others are running much hotter tunes without leaks, it is most likely a failed gasket somewhere, a bad o ring brought down the sapce shuttle.

No, the compression pressures without a turbo are already much higher than atmospheric - that's why the crankcase is vented in the event there is any pressurization from blow by the rings.

The only thing you need to worry about with higher boost is keeping those clamps sealing!

There's a thread out about an oil leak on 2007-2009 Colbalt SS ,HHR SS the solstice GXP ,and the Sky Red line . it shows up around the High Pressure fuel Pump. I posted the whole thing on the Oil Leak post about a week ago.. The engine lite and low boost started after I got it back Tuesday on the way home from work .

No its on the other side by the oil fill capand ( HPFP ) and oil lays in the valley next to the Oil Filter Cap

Well today I had to go to the dealer .Now they want to know about the senors that are on the Car.I told them they were part of the GMPP turbo upgrade that was put on.They ask by Who , when I told them You did they almost chocked. They said that the car is producting 41 PSI ,they also said the Seals in the Turbo are leaking OIL. I ask them how they tested the boost And they told me through the OBD 2 port .
Like Joe said that is reading from the PCM and it only goes to 25 PSI. I got my car out of there and now in 4th and 5th gear its Blowing smoke out the Exhaust and it wasn't before they got it.Now I am looking for a real service Center that knows performance cars. I told their service Manager i was Not satisfied with there Work or the answers that service writer gave me.
They told me befoer they could go any farther they want to see what the warranty is with the GMPP Tune . Now I have to get my PT cruiser off their lot in the morning. I am so Pis**d at myself for taking it there.       :gaah:      :banghead:

I have a contact at the Alexandria dealership if you would like to try there. They've been good to me and they are a helluva lot closer. Let me know and good luck!

The oil filler cap is vented from the nub on the underside of the cap to behind & outside the o-ring. As far as I can tell its the only positive crankcase vent once the pressure exceeds the spring pressure within the PCV valve causing it to shut.[providing its not stuck open]...(under very light pressure, zero or  any negative pressure it<PCV> flows both ways)  It seems there is lots of confusion on just what the PCV is doing. I'm confused too, but this is what mine does. Anyone know of any other crankcase ventilation? The vent from valve cover directly to the turbo is confusing. Seems it has nothing to regulate it, what gives?
I think an alternate positive pressure vent is in order. Maybe a filter on the dipstick tube for now!!
