Need advice for purchase of 2007 GXP!
« on: October 08, 2010, 07:31:11 AM »
I'm intersted in buying a 2007 Red GXP. There are about 28,500 miles on it.

My question is : On the inside of the exhaust outlets(tips), there is a black(carbon) build up. Is this normal for a turbo charged engine, or is there something that is not in order? Or is it just a matter of having it tuned up?

The car seems to run Ok. I'm just wanting to make sure that something wrong won't come along after I buy it.

It is being sold at an AUDI dealership.

Thanks for your input!! :)

Completely Normal!  It can be cleaned out with some metal polish and extra fine steel wool...

This is normal for these engines. The reasons for the sootiness have been a matter of some debate but, despite the sootiness, these engines actually run quite lean.

FYI, I love mine and encourage you to buy one!

HoustonSolstice, location:  Houston/Germany, check out the VIN# on the 2007 Red GXP that you are interested in!  Our early build 2007 VIN 1G2MG35X97Y120075 was ordered on the first day you could order it, uh, Code 1100, Order #KCPDVV 04-28-2006, delivered:  12-27-2006.  The black carbon buildup on the inside of the exhaust outlet tips is normal.  It appears in all turbo charged engines.  A Tune has nothing to do with it, in fact with a Tune there would be more carbon deposits!  Our early build 2007 now has 17,995 actual miles on the odometer as of today and that would be considered very low mileage for an early build.  It also has carbon deposits on the exhaust outlet tips.  It is possible to remove the carbon deposits, and a smoother flow would result.

Sounds like you are interested in the vehicle.  I would advise to take a test drive and see if the salesman can tell you anything the previous owner had to say about the vehicle.  Once you get the fever, if you buy it, you will feel like a new man!  Please report back what you find.  Can't wait to here what you do.  If you purchase you will be amazed at what you have bought, indeed!!!

The 2007 Red (Aggressive) GXP is certainly low mileage (28,500)!   :drive:  :usa:

Hi, I have a 2007 GXP, Red, with the carbon on the inside of my exhaust tips too.  I get a solid 32 mpg and great performance.  Mine is completely stock.  Runs smooth, starts instantly.

In Greece they sell used kappas for $26-27K and we, owners feel sellers are giving them for free... this car, in general, certainly worthes more than the 16K they ask for. check if it is in good condition (no accidents, no problems etc) and buy it asap

HAMMER DOWN, you got a really good deal new and I felt that I worked a fair deal as well.  In fact, I was so pleased decided to show it in my signature.  Fully loaded price was $30,300 less $1,000 GMMC credit, and with some persuasion the final figure came down to $28,180, $2,120 under MSRP plus tax.  I will add the American flags as well!  :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa:

I wanted to let you all know that I did not buy this GXP. There were some issues with the car, ie. smoke comiing out  of the exhaust, rattles in the chassis, soft suspension. I just did not have a good feeling about it. So I will either keep my 2009 Street Edition and put a Turbocharger in it or a Supercharger from DDM. I am still looking at different possibilites. I will still keep my eye on a GXP though. Maybe I'll have some luck.

Thanks , you know , I have been thinking that maybe I should have two. My Solstice and a Sky Redline!

This is one of the possibilities that I have been referring to.

$15k! Jump on it. There maybe a few kappas available now, but in the not too distant future they'll be allot harder to find.
