Vendor Section suggestion
« on: January 19, 2009, 01:20:12 PM »
Lately, I have been spending some time in the Vendor section of the forum, looking for some things for my car.  After spending about 5 minutes, I was getting frustrated from all the clicking I needed to do to get to each vendors home page.  Is there any way we could add 1 more line to each vendor entry, that could include a link to their home page (if they have one).  Here's what I was thinking, and this is just a suggestion.  Any change would be appreciated.

OLD VIEW OF A VENDOR:
FocuzTech
FocuzTech - Performance Products - 866.95.FOCUZ
Moderator: FocuzTech

MY SUGGESTION:
FocuzTech
FocuzTech - Performance Products - 866.95.FOCUZ
Moderator: FocuzTech

Homepage:  Focuz.com   <-- not the real home page, just an example BUT it should be a clickable link!!

One other possibility could be to actually include their little company logo (that you could click on to go to their web site) that we already have kicking around the forum.  I see the logos down the right side of my screen a lot for the vendors.

Sticking with my above example, my suggestion here would be:

MY SUGGESTION:
FocuzTech
FocuzTech - Performance Products - 866.95.FOCUZ
Moderator: FocuzTech

I don't get it.  What's so hard about clicking on their logo on the right side of the page???

Gon'  you could do it that way and I did eventually do some that way...but the vendors listed on the right do no line up with the vendor names, and are in a different order, and are not always clear as to who they line up with.  If we end up getting 15 more vendors, that list will be even more of a pain in the buttocks to use.  It seems so simple, put that little vendor clickable icon right in their vendor entry rather than, or as well as the list on the right?

It sounds like a reasonable suggestion...let's let Joe chime in on this one since he is a major part of the site design.  It is easy, though, to use the banners on the right side of the page...and I would assume that as we get more vendors, the banners will either be smaller, or you will find them on different areas of the page.

Joe's da boss ... but I'll look into it some this afternoon.  Each vendor also as the option of putting a logo/link in their signature.

But, I do understand what kwhale is wanting and will review the feasibility.

I don't see why we couldn't have a link to their home page on/in the vendor section.  I also click on the banners on the right side of the page to go to their websites, but having another option seems feasible and fairly easy to do.

Well .. the first test didn't work.  :gaah:

But, I'll do some more checking in a bit.  Got some errands to run for now.

I'm sure we can figure out something workable.

The right margin now lines up with their respective sub forums, checking into the links on the sub forum itself.

The only thing they get paid is compliments, and they deserve each and everyone one of them.

Your welcome!!!  Good suggestion.

MomsSol, there are only two ways to link URLs in SMF, href or [url] and [url] didn't work,  I tried that one first.

yup ... the [url] was the first one I tried .. didn't have time to give a second try as I was getting ready to walk out the door.

Glad someone got it working ... doesn't matter who! (just don't dock my pay .. okay?)
