Stock Subwoofer Specs
« on: January 13, 2011, 10:57:40 AM »
Does anyone know the specs on both the stock subwoofer and its enclosure?

I am going back and forth with a few subwoofers and need to know things such as the cubic feet of the box, as well as the maximum mounting depth that a sub can be without cutting the back of the box.  Any help would be much appreciated, and I know there are others that would like to know the same thing.

I am currently looking at 2 JL Audio subwoofers that are not flat woofers, but are slim in terms of mounting depth.

Im interested in the volume of the enclosure as well. I asked about it in my thread asking for pictures of the enclosure.

I'm looking specifically at the JL Audio 8w1v2 (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=28) with a mounting depth of 3.85"

AND

JL Audio 8w3v3 (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=27) with a mounting depth of 4.63"

AND

JL Audio 10w0v2 (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=32) with a mounting depth of 4.90"

I WOULD LOVE

JL Audio 13TW5 (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=30) with a mounting depth of 2.54"

Any ideas on getting the 13.5" shallow sub to fit??

I spoke with Joe from JPM a while last night and after our conversation, decided to look for components with composite cone materials (Kevlar, glass-fiber, carbon fiber, etc.), not a metal....also looking for a silk dome tweeter, as the metal ones are too harsh.

He gave you some good information. I hate the sound of a metal tweeter. Never really saw a metal coned speaker other than a subwoofer though. But the more paper-like the material is the more warm your sound will be.

Exactly...you would be surprised how many of the mainstream companies are making their midbass woofers out of aluminum or other metal materials.  I am now looking at some Polk MOMO components, but I know their earlier MOMO models are better than the new ones.  The older one are just so hard to find.

By the way, anyone find the specs for the stock subwoofer box or woofer yet?
