The Perfect Saturn Ion To Survive The Apocalypse

The Perfect Saturn Ion To Survive The ApocalypseThe Saturn Ion never generated much of a charge when GM built it, but it looks far tougher with all of its body panels removed and the subframe painted black. Meet a former TV star and future LeMons competitor.

This Mad-Maxed out 2003 Ion was apparently built as part of an ad campaign for Bridgestone tires; you can see the spot aired in last year's Super Bowl here. The purchaser told the crowd at Reddit that outside of its exterior, the interior was mostly standard Saturn fare, and that based on their recommendations he's entering Space Frame Skeletor in the April LeMons fest — which at its sale price of $350, it easily qualifies for. I saw that this morning also on Jalopnik ( a favorite while drinking the morning coffee) but I think they are going to have a hard time at tech unless they make some changes. We have campaigned a lemons car several times now and they have the following rule in place:

3.28: Fenders, Doors, and Hoods Required: All cars must have fenders at all wheels; all doors in place; and OE hoods. Hoods must be securely mounted by OE hardware and/or strong fasteners at all corners.

I think they could get away with the doors, but the hood and fenders would be a long stretch ;)
