What would you do with the Waterfall Dual Cupholder Slot?
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:45:15 AM »
Kicking around some ideas for the waterfall dual cupholder slot... Looking for some input from the forum. Not looking for what you have (unless you have some cool mod to share)... I am looking for what you would do if you had the following options:

1 - A custom billet dual cupholder

2 - A custom billet combination single cupholder with cell phone/Ipod holder

3 - A custom billet tray/drawer to hold a cell phone, Ipod, or navigation unit.

4 - A custom billet engraved faceplate that was engraved with your choice of  Pontiac, Solstice, GXP, Saturn, Sky, or Redline.

5 - Something else. List your thought or idea below.

Nothing in place or in the works.... I am just looking for what you would do if you had the option to replace this slot with something from above. I just dont like what we currently have which is a dual cupholder that constantly pops open when I bump it with my elbow.

My other option or thought was to find someone with a 2009 or 2010 who wants the factory dual cupholder and swap them for the filler faceplate GM installed in the 09's.... I would then modify it with some RED LEDs to add more lighting in the car.

Kelu -

Curious how that would work.... I am talking about the slot in the waterfall next to where your elbow rests... I would think you would be blocking the camera with your shoulder all the time or bumping it with your elbow just like I do with the current dual cupholder.

Trying to visualize how a camera mount would work in that slot.....

I did, a custom mount which will use that hole and from the center of it a ball joint connected long arm so you can play with different positions of the camera. This was my dream. I went out and bought a windshield ARM mount and destroyed my dream some weeks ago :)

I have a filler plate on my 2009 and would be happy to swap. Having one factory cupholder is a PITA!

I usually forget it is there unless I inadvertantly open it with my elbow. Not really much uses, but maybe a short pop-out holder of some sort for cell phones or something.

Nothing, never use it, never want to. Too big of a hassle to fiddle with while driving. Pretty much a waste of space, probably why '09 did away with it.  JMO.

I always wanted to have the holder slide in and out as it does, but instead of cup holders, I would like a panel with switches for show lights.

I completely agree with you CT_Solstice. Thats why I am considering swapping mine out for a face plate of some sort.  My second thought (strictly because of the limited space in the car) would be some sort of drawer or tray that pulls out. Really checking to see what creative ideas others have come up with or have used the slot for.

Now there is an idea!!!!!  Switches to control lighting like on a windrestrictor, footwell lighting, or other show lights. I like that idea!!!!!

Slightly off topic... is DDM center console ready yet? Anyone coming to the SMMM is welcome to my center console cupholders.  Next mod, super glue shut the center holders or replace with the '09 plastic piece. Guess it is time to do some parts research. I will USE the DDM ones.

Sounds that way Bob but I still need someone to pop on this! I would have liked the DDM console but I just had JPM cover my factory unit and want to enjoy it this spring. I don`t think the rear cupholder is such a pain for the people with automatics. Looking forward to seeing your engine bay mods and curious about your rim search. Please keep us informed!  Take care ... Craig

Yeah the automatic thing must make all the difference as I wouldn't want to get rid of mine. I'm really surprised that no one has PM'd you wanting to do the trade. I know that you've wanted to get that waterfall cup holder for a while for your 2009.

I like option two. A combo of one cup holder ....would be the one nearest the drivers side ...this would be the one the passenger would use and  then a tray closest to the passenger that holds a blackberry or iPhone etc. I (driver) would continue to use the billet cup holder (which I love ) by the passengers leg. I agree using the waterfall while driving is hopeless. Besides improving functionality I really want the look upgraded. Would be nice to have this plus engraving on the face plate. Best of both worlds!!!

I had asked in another forum and did not receive an answer, so I hope someone can help me here. I have a coupe and was wondering if I could put the dual cup holder or single cup holder below the storage compartment on the coupe? Is the waterfall designed exactly like it was on vert? Also, would a dual cup holder fit where the single cup holder is if I cut it to fit the outside dimensions? Is there room in the tunnel for a dual? Also, I figured out that if you use your opposite inside hand underneath your arm, you can reach the window button without contorting your outside arm, shoulder and hand and take the chance of dislocation. It sounds strange but it works pretty well.
