How to install HID kit
« on: January 29, 2009, 03:47:24 PM »
This is how i installed my HID kit.....

ATTENTION!!! It is recommended that you wear gloves when installing the the bulbs so that you don't get the oils from your hands on the bulb.

1st) I attached the wire harness to the side of the fuse box underhood

2nd) I ran the longest set of wire from the hardest behind the intake manifold to the leftside of the car

3rd) After that I drilled a couple holes in both of the wheel wells and mounted the ballast mounts on each side(make sure not to push the drill to far and puncture the tires)

4th) After that was bolted and secured I put the grounding wire for the left side to the left pillar where the hood strut is mounted which also has the air bag sensor attached to it

5th) Then I went to the right side and attached the ground wire to the power steering mount

6th) Once that was connected i attached the positive wire to the battery terminal (there is a little screw on there you can connect it to)

7th) When that is done i attached the left ballast to it's mount and connected the wires to it(the wires are self explanatory of where they get connected to). Remove the stock bulbs and install the light bulb adapter then the HID bulb

(On the left side u dont have to worry about the light plug because the kit only uses one side. On mines the bulb did not fit tightly so what I did was take the rubber ring from the stock bulb and place it on top of the rubber ring around the HID rubber ring and then screwed it in....it made the fit tighter)

8th) Then repeat for the same thing for the right side. Then connect the stock light plug into the HID plug and then your set

This is what the finished setup looks like on my car

NOTICE: for the grounding on the right side, mounting to the power steering top mount is not the best place, it caused my ballast not power up. So wut I did was relocate it to a mount on the frame which got everything working again.

this is where i moved it to...the battery mount attacted to the frame

This post has been very helpful to me, I wondered how these would install. I will keep my Sylvania Silverstars.

Ahhh, velcro makes sense!  I have installed the Xenon fog lights and hid the ballast where they can't be seen but wasn't sure how to do this with the headlights.  I'm guessing the velcro must be a good brand or it could fall off on a bumpy road.  Great idea!!

Thanks guys

I still have a concern with the HID lights and the DRL on the GXP, our DRL system reduces the voltage during daytime driving, I have heard this will cause bulbs to go and ballasts too, seems to make a good case for HID fogs.

Yea same for the N/A's too. Theres a couple things you can do to fix that, the simplest thing to to is to remove the DRL fuse under the hood....thats what i did.........but check out this it explains it a little morehttp://kappaperformance.com/forum/index.php?topic=787.0

Wow that's the exact same spot i decided to put my ballast.   Unfortunetely i couldnt put it on the same spot on the other side though, the cables were too short.

I know what the options are, I choose the cheapest and easiest, don't install HID's in the headlights. I will be doing HID fogs, I can't stand all that wiring mess either, easy to hide it all with the fogs.

Who knows, the FocuZTech light bulbs may be just as good instead of HID wiring...
