what exhaust????
« on: April 02, 2011, 01:12:13 AM »
what exhaust can you get for a solstice that sounds good and not ricey. the muffler shop i went to said to put a flowmaster 40 series on it with 3in piping. im not looking to spend a bunch of money on it, so i would be getting just the muffler and building the piping. kinda want to stay budget friendly

Just putting on a muffler and throwing in some pipe might not make it sound good...make sure you do a lot of research before you do that, as you mind end up unhappy and spending more money to change it.  If you're interested in what we have to offer at Solo Performance for your 2.4, feel free to call me anytime at 516-655-9002:)  Happy shopping!!

I bet 90%, maybe more of the cars here that have changed their stock exhausts have gone with Steve and Jeff at Solo Performance.

Ya' have to be careful adding an aftermarket exhaust as you can very easily introduce drone which is not something you want. A system has to be designed properly to eliminate that. You will never, and I really mean never find a company that offers better products and service than Solo.
Just trying to do my part...

Steven ... I had the Flowmaster 40 on my car and the sound is awesome and the pricing is very reasonable.  The 'burble' that comes out of it is more of a nice 'baritone' versus the 'tenor' sound of the Magnaflow.  Not ricey sounding at all.

Of course, Solo has some great products as well depending on the 'sound' you are looking for.

Looks like you live in GA so you won't fight the same issues as I do here in the frozen north with snow, ice and salt but I would still recommend putting the extra down for the Stainless version then at some point.

Mine was replace a year ago with the Magnaflow Stainless Steel from the Cat back - covered by my insurance due to a run in with some black ice. :gaah:

I use Kappashpere for my 2.4. It's got nice purr with a little growl inside. The guys at work who drive V8 trucks say it sound good. What ever that means. :)

I'm not sure what your definition of canister type is, but the exhaust I have might be the closest you'll see.

I've seen this thread, but kept quiet about mine for a few important reasons:

- It's no longer available
- It doesn't fit your "budget" criteria
- The advice you're getting about going Solo is good advice (not that I regret going with what I got - I'm quite pleased with it, in fact!)
- It won't sound the same on your N/A as it does on my GXP - turbos act as mufflers all by themselves, so it would be a bit louder on your car

I bought an MBRP T304 system.  At the time, they had it listed on their website.  If you really want to look into it, they could most likely still "custom" make a system for you, as I doubt they just threw out all the R&D when they stopped stocking the systems.

If you're considering just changing the muffler for a "fart can," I sincerely doubt you'll be happy with the results.  It will certainly cost less, but a full system will get you better sound, performance, and durability.

Here's a link to a video of the exhaust I have (not my car, but the same exhaust):

Yep, that's similar to what I have, but I have 2 cans.  I think it's 3" back to the split and 2.5" to each can - no resonator or anything else between the cat and mufflers.  No rasp

I believe MBRP makes their mufflers in-house.

But the 2.4 does sound decent with the 2.0 dual exhaust, which people try to give away.

Many companies make a nice exhaust.  Having had both the 2.4 and 2.0L Solstice, I can say that they sound VERY different.  I actually think the 2.4 has a better tone overall.  Exhaust is really a matter of personal preference.  Our company (SOLO Performance) makes a few different exhausts for both cars.  The GXP exhaust also sounds pretty good on a 2.4L.  It's not as throaty as some of the others, but you can pick it up for a cheaper cost.  If you have the cash and want a more aggressive sound, then go to the aftermarket.  Any questions, feel free to PM me:)

All I can say is that every mechanic that works on my car asks where I got such a quality stainless exhaust.

Solo uses the best materials to make a great exhaust.

Course what Do I know? I am just some dumb kid!

How would it sound if you removed the stock muffer and put in dual tips from the stock single pipe? Would that make it too loud?

Isn't the SOLO street race straight pipes just like that would be? The street race doesn't sound bad at all, so why wouldn't ditching the stock muffler sound similar?

You ever heard a 2.4 with street race?  Don't even think it is available for the 2.4 but I could be wrong.
