Cuttig Stock Subwoofer Box Question
« on: May 21, 2011, 06:26:05 PM »
I am thinking of opening the back of the sub box up by cutting out the rear body panel.  Does anyone know how much more room I can get from doing that?  If I can get enough room, we can fiberglass in an enclosure and use a larger 10 inch sub, or maybe even a 12.

Is there any room?  You have the infrastructure for the top goes in there and the gas tank.  I would be nervous about cutting

I believe someone has already done it with success.  I am just hoping that they see this and chime in.  I think you can get another 4 inches or so, but I want to make sure.

That area is below the trunk - into the outside.  I drilled a hole or two (I forget) for my amp on the driver side and the suspension is right behind IIRC.

Anyway, I did a search on google (really spicy? I had to do this for you?) and found this, telling you exactly what you need to know: http://www.me-mag.com/Upload/ME607_installing.pdf

(That's worth a six-pack at MMM8, please - and I ain't talkin' about muscles!)

Wow! I haven't seen that in about 4 years.  I was going to search for it again when I start my install... Eventually....

Thank you!  That's what I needed to see.  I might have this done during the summer and put a single JL Audio or Morel in there.

Just FYI, you can get at least another .5 cubic feet by opening the back of the box.  We did it today and have almost a full cubic foot now for a bigger SQ woofer.
