What's it worth?
« on: June 16, 2011, 06:41:30 PM »
Here's the deal:  Local "mechanic/junk" shop has an Opel GT for sale.  (I haven't asked how much yet)  It's in sad shape, engine gone, maybe tranny, too.  Pretty well stripped.  But, all body panels are there, no dents, not much rust, and all glass.  So, What's It Worth?
As for use, well lotta ifs...  IF I built a racer, I sure would not feel bad cutting holes for a roll bar...  IF I bought it, where would I keep it! IF I bought it, would the wife have me committed.. :(
But man, the body style sure reminds me of the prettiest car ever built, 1960 Ferrari Coupe.....

It is worth what you are willing to pay for it, not a penny more, but a lot less if you can get it for that

Your avatar says Texas and you are asking about an Opel GT that is a European model of the SKY.
What year is it?. It seems to me to be SKY if it is in the States.

Gregory,
Except this is a Kappa forum, not sure why he would be asking about the 1st one.

The way that he describes it takes me there and that the new Opel GT is only in europe.
He wants an opinion of some members of a car forum, not strange.

100% sure he is referring to the old Opel GT 1900cc thing.

Hubert - here is some things to think about -
1) BUILDING a race car is FAR more expensive than buying a decent used one and rebuilding IT.
2) Parts will be tough to get and probably expensive.
3) The used GT you are looking at is worthLESS. He should be thrilled if you just hauled it away.
4) If you want an Opel GT look HERE  http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Cars-Trucks-/6001/i.html?_nkw=Opel+GT&_catref=1&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282&_rdc=1-- it's cheaper to buy a GOOD one to MAKE a good one. JUST a paint job would be well over a grand, and a GOOD paint job would be thousands.

I think even saw a thread about getting less fat...

Which of course, applies directly to racing, since less weight is faster.
Make the right choices now

Yes, they are. But complete, solid, running examples can be found for no more money than building one from scratch. AND, you get to enjoy it as soon as you get the keys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Kelu's average speed has gone down significantly since he installed the 6528. :poke:

Hubert - I wasn't trying to be funny.  I was serious

If you think the shell is worth $100 then you wouldn't want to pay more
If you think 1k same thing.

I think SnaponBob is giving you excellent information
And JimmyV - has a personal history with these gems.

I would follow their advise.

Oh, I know.  I -was-trying to be funny... :)  And the shell is probably not worth more than a hundred bucks.... :(
And maybe not anything if there are serious title problems.....
It's just fun to pipe dream.
