What did I do to my Kappa today?  Well, I have an 08 Saturn Sky Redline and have always been annoyed by the chime and blinking seatbelt light when I am sitting in the car without my seatbelt latched in.  I figured out how to disable both and it was much easier than I ever expected.

So, in my ongoing boost-gauge saga, I found out another interesting factoid.  I had previously assumed that the interior light dimmer knob simply reduced the voltage to the instrument and switch backlight LEDs and bulbs, to dim them. However, turns out that the system actually sends a pulsed output to the bulbs.  The lower the dimmer setting, the shorter the pulses (and longer between them) - also known in the trade as PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation).

I'm using the dash-light voltage to trigger dimming the gauge LEDs at night.  Bugger it, this means that I have to change my circuit board a bit, as well as my micro code, to account for it.

Oh well, learn something new every day.

TS, Good Summary.  Yes, PWM means no heat to dissipate from a dimming pot. The old guys like me might remember the old hotter than all H lamp switch    after a long drive in the dark with the IP dimmed a bit.  The metal frame of the switch was supposed to distribute the heat to the metal dash.  Ah, the good old days...

Clear Skies!

Had a custom-fitted paint protection film installed on Monday.  The installer managed to get the bumper part in almost one piece except for the separate lip.  The wing mirrors required three pieces and the same for the windshield frame as I didn't want him to waste too much material.  The headlights were completely covered in one-piece film each.

Changed the drivers side wiper coz it was raining today and I couldn't see a thing.
Also today the drivers side halo from the angel eyes seems to have burned... Called the guy who installed it and he will get a new one to replace it for free

Bought my new PSS tires but the wheels are stuck at the powder coater for a few weeks it seems. I wish the heck I could make up my mind what color I want to do them. Powder coat chrome is sounding better all the time. Not really chrome but more like a polished aluminum look.

Just want it to look good with the dark blue (Deep).    :banghead:

Did the dark grey and although I was hoping the dark grey would grow on me, it wasn't to be. At 55 years old I'm stuck in a time when chrome and tail fins reighned supreme. The last powder coating cost me more than the wheels did and I don't want to make that mistake again. A blacked out car doesn't work for me. Where I come from you use black wheels to mount snow tires on the car for the winter.

I do like the chrome wheels. Maybe a black chrome would work...    Hmmmmmm

I have a black chrome looking license plate holder and seriously considered having my rims done in black chrome.  It's not so bling bling as the chrome, yet not jet black either.  I'm a fan!  Had I not done the plasti-dip, I probably would have gone with black chrome.

I've tried to find semi local (state, tri-state) to do black chrome for me. No luck as of yet. Then again, I also want them to do some plastic parts in my car first and that is the hard part. Seems like a lot of shops don't want to do plastic (at least none that I could find). For now I've used the dupli-color "Shadow" paint. It's supposed to turn normal chrome into black chrome. I've had mixed results, but for the most part it's pretty decent. I painted most of the chrome in the interior and it has really cut down on the glare, but still has that deep chrome reflection (just darker)

I know the guy that I had do my powder coating before would have done black chrome but I don't know about the guy that is doing my wheels this time. This guy only buys powder in 25 kilo boxes. He did say though that if I wanted a particular color that he didn't have, I could buy the powder and he would apply it.

I didn't want it to sit for too long, and since my cars are clean I figured that was the way to go.  I was going to wash yours after, but they started playing tee ball next door so I just put it away dirty.  You really should've left Blue Waffle here instead.
