Interesting turn of events today.  I wonder how much the weather will play a roll tomorrow.

Might be worth it for RB to swap an engine in Verstappen's car.
He would still start ahead of Hamilton tomorrow.

What a race, take a 25 place penalty and turn it into a 10 second lead at the win.

It was a good race.  Max tried everything he could and somethings he shouldn't to try and win.  Ham just beat him.

Ham was on fire.  The commentators went on about all the vehicles he passed to get to 5th place saying they all knew that they would get there spots back for the race.  Took him what 20 laps to get to 2nd place and and just waited his time.  Some great racing on and off the track.

It was some good driving, but the engine and car is just that much superior than the rest of the field.
It should not be possible to take those type of penalties and finish like that.

Makes me very excited for next year where the money will be evened out and make it more of a drivers contest.

Thank you elff. What is missing here is MB was cheating with the rear wing and got caught, but no one raises and eye brow with the MB engine been faster than any other teams, even though there are 3/4 of the teams using MB engines. How quickly we forget the complains by MB against Ferrari in 2019 because Ferrari was so much faster. So much so that Ferrari went down big time in 2020.
Why give him any credit, when any other driver with the same type of machine would have done the same thing. Do you all forget what Russell did when driving his car?.
That is why I can not wait for 2022 to make the field as equal as possible and then let the drivers do their best.

So the number I heard during the race that MB's wing opening was out by was 0.2mm which is a little under .008 inches. A sheet of paper is around .005 so a business card is probably thicker than the amount MB was "cheating" by.    If the wing is 40 inches wide that works out to a colossal 1/3 of a square inch of extra air flow.  While I am sure that larger opening helps reduce drag a little picking up marbles on the tires will add more surface area to the car then that wide open wing will be reducing.

Typical design tolerance for the work I do is +/- .005.  I think its totally possible to have .003 in of wear in the DRS linkage through normal wear and tear during a race season.

Then there's the question of how accurate the measuring tool is or was there temperature changes that might have happened.

And lets not forget Max was touching their car so did he bend something and sabotage Ham?

Did they deserve the penalty?  Yes the car was out of spec.  Did it really give the team an advantage?  Probably not.

Unless the engine issue is address the out come is already made, baring a DNF on Hamilton.
If the FIA gave MB the penalty it was an advantage.

John it wasn't even across the entire wing.  One of the end clamps was partially broken allowing the extra gap on one corner of the wing.    The tool has an 85MM wheel that is pushed against the gap.  It has a pressure gauge and should withstand 10 newton metre of pressure (or
0.0014503774 psi) before sliding through

RB has now changed their rear wing what 3 times after quali and before the race in the last 4 races and no penalty?

What "engine issue?"

The problem is MB's wing is flexing under load and opening wider than it can be measured
They definitely have some trickery going on.  And since an Engine replacement isn't a penalty for them, they can run their engines with more aggressive tunes and keep blowing them up.

I can't wait for next season as well.

Anyone know what exactly the changed on Ham's car?  He only got a 5 place penalty.  Wasn't Bottas engine change a greater penalty?

Actually it seems to be moving around inside the fittings causing the carbon fiber to wear.  It is the Red Bulls wing that flutters like a flag but that seems to be okay.

There is some kind of strange formula but after x amount of changes the penalty stays at 5 spots.

Quote from: The all knowing interweb which is a lot smarted than SA
In 2014, when drivers could use five of each component over the season, it was initially decreed that a driver must start from the pits if they replaced a complete power unit. Using any component a sixth time earned a 10-place penalty but a sixth of any other component after that was only worth five places.

So if you build a bad enough engine they eventually reward you for your efforts.  Sounds like something the Brandon admin would come up with.

It should be another interesting start tomorrow.

The Penalty on Verstappen was unwarranted.
They still had DRS enabled.  Even the announcers said it was uncalled for during the race.

All those penalties were bs.

"you can't pass on this track"   -  wrong

Good race 8 points in it, and an old man on the podium!

Tires fail with little warning at this track.

I agree those penalties where questionable.
