Pirrelli confirmed that the tire failed to to excessive pressures it was subject too running so long and hitting so many curbs.

Qualifying was not the carnage I expected, interesting non the less.  How there weren't accidents shows just how good the guys are.

Holy shit, what a show.  It went very long I had a 90 minute extension on the recorder and it wasn't long enough.  I realized it was going to happen about half way through and tried to tape the hour show after it.  I couldn't tape it as it was already being taped.  So I taped the game after it.

Long story short, I didn't get the last 7 laps or so..............and picked it up on the podium.  So I didn't get the after race interviews.  I am not going to say anything, BUT if you only ever watch one race this is the one.

They are replaying the race at 7pm est on ESN Critter.  You need to see the last 10 laps for sure.  Plenty of controversy in this one.  Holy shit is right.

I got all the race but missed a lot of the after race interviews.

I wonder how long before this track is changed, it's an accident waiting to happen.

I watched it John, as my betamax thinks it is a new show on a different channel :).   Bet Ocon wished the track was a 100' shorter.  I am still trying to comprehend everything that happened,  Max was penalized an additional 10 seconds for a total of 15 (a non-penalty as 3rd was farther back than that.  The letter from the FIA stated that he did brake check Ham (69  bars) I don't know know much brake pressure that is but apparently enough to get a penalty.  Oh yeah 2 points on his license as well.

My concern is if Max takes Ham out in the next race, he will win by default with 1 more race win.  Ham has to finish ahead of him in the points to win.  If that happens he could be DQ'ed if the FIA decides it was intentional, they did that before in the 60's I believe.

We will know next Sunday.

69 bar is just a shade over 1000PSI, so he didn't just tap the brakes.

I am with you on trying to figure out what all happened, there was way too much WTF going on.  That first yellow should have just been a red flag to begin with, no need to take 4 or so laps to decide hey we may need to do some repairs.

When did they start letting teams decide how they want to line up for a restart?  What was RB's other option take a penalty and start 3rd?

I did learn on a restart you can take as long as you want to get to the starting grid to allow the other driver's (in front of you) tires to cool down.  Seems the FIA might want to look into that.

Max was told to give Hamilton the place back and Hamilton did have plenty of room to go around him
but
It sounded like Hamilton never got that announcement
So I think that whole situation was caused by the stewards or whoever the hell made the call in F1.  Not RB, not Max, not Hamilton.

The entire race with that, the weird penalty, the yellow then red flags just seemed really unorganized.

I second all that has been said. For next year they need to fix the track or it will be no different than what happened on Sunday. By the way on the F2 race 2 drivers end up in the hospital, that should have been enough to do rolling starts rather than standing starts.

I thought it looked more like a flimsy tea spoon after someone tried to use it to serve ice cream a bunch of times.  But yeah I can see what you're saying.

He was saying how happy he was with it and that it was very safe.

Do they maybe also race camels there?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Verizon said ESPNU for practice one and two.  It was actually ESPN2 that carried practice.  I caught the last 30 minutes of 2.

I am all caught up on watching now. That last race was one of the most interesting races I?ve ever seen. So many mistakes by the governing body. It is amazing how important some of the fastest lap points have become. Whereas the last couple of years they were completely irrelevant, this year the whole thing could come down to the fastest lap point. What I can?t understand is why Hamilton didn?t just blow by Verstappen when Verstappen slowed down. It should be in his blood to just drive around a car that suddenly slows down, assuming he must have some sort of mechanical issue. It happens all the time, and the driver behind just drives around the slower car in front. There had to of been some sort of gamesmanship going on on Hamilton?s part to not pass him at high-speed. It?s not like a fast car has suddenly slowed down In the middle of the street before. Happens all the time when an engine blows, batteries fail, etc.
Make the right choices now

I think that all boils down to the DRS line a hundred or so feet in front of Max.  If he had passed him Max would have DRS and passed him before the end of the straight, he had already done that once.  That and I think he may have been gunshy the way Max was pushing him around the track.

Wondering how the wing men are going to help out tomorrow.
I mean, Perez could just tap Hamilton and screw up Hamilton's race to get Verstappen the win.
I bet RB would reward him with a multi year contract.

But Bottas is too far down to help out on the first lap.

This should help clear up the confusion
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.breaking-stewards-dismiss-mercedes-abu-dhabi-grand-prix-protests-as-team.Q8StGwXFdORYlI32Jggoz.html

For me, ending this season under a safety car would have been a tragedy.   It needed to be decided by racing and I am glad it was.

MB still won the constructors championship, so they can go cry in all of the extra millions of dollars they just earned.
but
MAD MAX deserved this.
