Thanks for the ride along Kenny!  Loved watching you takes those curves tighter than most...excellent job with the apex, well...except for that close call :), but you were pushing your Kappa the way it was designed to be driven.

Just for the record...what was your top speed on the straights and also in the curves?
Just here to help a friend!

The back straight, the one after the uphill section, I could get the car up to about 122mph. That's because I'm a wuss and am too afraid to floor it up until the moment of braking.

I did an log with an iPhone app called Dynolicious Logbox, and there is some algorithm I can do in excel to convert the positive G forces into miles per hour. Just haven't gotten around to figuring it out.

If I had HPT Pro I could log that way, without a laptop. There's so many other ways to do data acquisition, and as cool as it is, I'm not trying to set lap records here so I will probably not invest much in it.

Speaking of HTP pro..... When are y going to make up your mind?  We are all still waiting....

Also, great video.  Very impressive.  I would like a ride along at the next mod meet so I can witness your skills first hand.

Yes. You have to be signalled to pass. I think that is common practice in HPDE events.

It's key for an incident free weekend. Only thing worse than hitting the wall is hitting another car.

Yeah I understand that. I just am not a huge fan of riding someones tail until they get sick of it and wave you by, but in this scenario, its just to make sure someone doesnt crush their car on the track.

Even with the wave to pass, I would still be all over that! It looks like you had fun! I am sure its much cheaper than the couple thousand for a racing license as well as the entry fees....and of course, repairs if you wreck or someone were to take you out.

However I really want to get into GT class racing if money ever permits. Already have a pit crew and motor man lined up. Just need the startup funds and a sponsor(s)... ;)

Try Chump Car or Lemons cheapest way to get started probably.

Or Skip Barber series. Or Go Karts

I conquered karts in Canada ;)... even though it would have been better to run with you and DDM Dave in the field as well.

But dang kenny i finally watch the rest of your video. You really did dominate on those guys! and that close call was close... looked like you could have reached out and touched the wall there

Excellent footage as well. A+ job.... so when can we run the track together? :D

I am somewhat familiar with Skip Barber and as I remember way back when we lived in Douglas, Arizona where my second son Rob was born, uh, that was in Tucson, Arizona Skip Barber used to have a driving school with regards to performance and had quite a following with the school.  It was known all around the state and well thought of.  At the time I did not own a performance vehicle, unless you could consider a brown 1974 Honda Civic Hatchback performance, uh, it was our first new car, purchased at Beaudry Crysler- Plymouth- Honda in Tucson, Arizona.  Well, pardon the off track post but getting back to the reason for the post Skip Barber was a household name around Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona.

Not thinking of a roll bar in my sky at the moment. I would want to modify much more on my car than just a roll bar. I couldnt bear to do it since it is a DD for me in the summer and IIRC the roll bar interferes with the seat going all the way back.

I will either get a blown motor sky and pump it up on an engine swap (2jz has me drooling), or get a 'go car', (evo, supra, vette, etc) for racing. Id love to race a sky, but the roll bar is such a hassle.

Nice job driving!  It is standard procedure to wave a passing car in High speed driving events. When driving with the advanced group expect later breaking points and earlier acceleration out of the turns. Go at your own pace and gradually increase your lap times . Really watch the other guy in the more advanced group, they sometimes lose it in a turn and you don't want to tangle up with them. Great Job!!! I sent you a reply on the Ron Davis radiator

Oh Blah, Blah, Blah on the karting.  I won't mention any names, but other than the guy we didn't know, who had the best time in the practice laps?  Yeah...that's right...it was some chick beating up on the boys for the 2nd best time of the day out of the 4 of us except for yours when you won.  The chick can drive...who knew??   :idk:

And again...not mentioning any names, but who was about ready to pass the leader in the finals until someone (not mentioning names) spun not one, but 2 people out?

Yeah...rubbing is racing.

Conquered?  Really?  I'd love a rematch, cause that little tap that happened in the corner won't happen again.

 yeah you got a tap, but if you were soooo much faster, how did I even catch you? as I recall you started 2 places in front of me....

Lets stay on topic. Kenny displayed some exceptional driving skill in that video. I am amazed you were able to hold it together after coming so close to the wall! I think I would have been a lot more flustered that you showed. That made me flinch in my computer chair. I cant wait to see your next video with the advanced group.

Also, Kenny, What driving gloves are you wearing? Do you like them?

How did you catch me?  Because the karts were definitely different and some were faster some slower despite the drivers abilities.  (I'm really just poking fun.  I had a blast!  And I still beat the boys in practice!!!!  :yay:  I proudly did my lap of shame after the finals, cussing the entire time!)

Kenny - other than that close call with the wall...you really made that look easy!  The more I watch that video, the more you have me thinking I might have to try a road course/track!  I've been too nervous and afraid I'll look like an idiot to try it.  Occassionally, they open up the track in Joliet and offer schools and sessions, that might be a start.  Anyway...Awesome video!  Good luck on your next time out!  Can't wait to see what happens if you advance to the next class!  Bet you do better than you think!

You don't need a more powerful car. I often wish for less power as then you can more safely push it.

They say it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

I wondered that.  I've heard that about bikes.  You don't necessarily need a more powerful bike in the twisties, you need a nimble one and you need to know how to ride/drive it.

I know my N/A can't get up to 122 on the straight.  It'll never make it.  I could only get up to about 103 on the back straight on an oval track in KY.  The 2.0's were getting up to 125.

I'm always afraid I'm going to do something stupid like spin out or what have you and mess up my car.  But from your video, I'd probably be ok.  Always have heard Watkins Glen is a good time and should be done!

Thanks for the feedback!

They are MOMOs Lindsay bought them for me as a gift. They are nice. Never drove with any other glove so I can't really say if they are good or not. I wear them because she bought them for me :)

Much less likely to spin out an NA than a Turbo.

Watkins Glen is a good track, but scary because the walls are close. I heard Mid Ohio is awesome, and I think I will try that one next year.

Mid ohio is an awesome track. I watched a viper do a complete 360 just before the start finish line, and drive out of it.

It its an awesome road course style track. I would love to drive it, but it is EXPENSIVE!

Porsche Club events are like $450 for 3 days of instruction. The cheapest I've seen. Of course you need to get hotels and feed yourself too, so it adds up. But most other organizations charge more.
