Ac Stopped working
« on: August 10, 2011, 12:35:52 AM »
So my ac had stopped working just blowing hot air now, so not sure if it needs freon or the compressor is bad. Stupid question here how can I tell if the compressor is kicking on. I already tried the recalibration and that's a no go.

Externally, the wheel (center) on the outside engages and disengages as you select on/off much like a clutch would engage/disengage when you depress the pedal. You should also hear it "click/engage." Check your belt tension and if the compressor wheel is spinning or frozen. If it's frozen, it's BAD! Internal failure is a whole different story. Not sure how to check that, besides recharging freon (meaning if you recharge it and it still doesn't work, then the compressor is probably bad).

Have you tried re-calibrating the system?
_______________________________________________

Actuator Recalibration
When replacing an air temperature, mode, recirculation actuator or the HVAC control assembly, the following calibration process needs to be performed:

Important: Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control assembly during self-calibration. If interrupted, improper HVAC performance will result.

1) Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.

2) Turn the Temperature dial all the way to the right.

3) Turn the blower control dial all the way to the right.

4) Turn the mode position dial all the way to the left.

5) Simultaneously press and hold the A/C and Defrost buttons until the LED's start to flash.

6) Once the LED's stop flashing, calibration is complete.
Just trying to do my part...

If there isn't any freon in the system it won't kick on for more than a second so you will have to have someone turn it on while you are watching it.

See OP.  Already tried recal.

IB,
Best way is to have someone sit in car and turn on AC while you have your head under the hood.  If the AC went all of a sudden, could be a fuse.  Something easy to check.
Make the right choices now
