Topic: How can I tell if my car has the GMPP upgrade kit (mistaken as Stage 2)

I bought a used GXP on Thursday last week, and as I was cleaning it yesterday I noticed a CARB sticker under the hood that had the part number #19212670 on it.  So I Googled the number, and much to my surprise, it's the part number for the Stage 2 kit.  But, since it's a used car, I actually don't know if the tune is still on the car or not.  Aside from going to a dealership and having them check to see if it's installed, is there any way I can find out on my own?

It feels fairly powerful, but I've never driven another GXP or Red Line to know for sure.

You can check by looking if you have the upgraded GMPP tune TMAP sensors.  This photo shows where they are (driver-side) but has the standard (non-GMPP sensors), so if your car's sensors look like this, you don't have GMPP tune.  However, if your sensors have only ONE mounting bolt (instead of two) and have a blue & white label, you DO have the GMPP tune.



If you have these sensors, the car won't run at all well without the tune on it... GMPP sensors:

Good to know   I checked mine and it doesn't have that tune.   but, I can imagine having one. It must go like stink because I find mine very nippy as it is.

Well, I do have the blue/white MAP sensors installed, so I guess I have the upgrade kit!  Sweet!  I thought that mountain of thrust at 3500RPMs was a bit (a lot) more than the advertised stock numbers.

But, one concern: I tried to do a "no-lift shift" just to see how it works, and I shifted at WOT at 6K.  I pressed in the clutch and the revs kept going up, and when I hit 3rd the engine stumbled and the CEL started blinking.  It set off cylinder 1,3,4, and multiple misfire codes?  WTF?  Not that I plan on drag racing often, but isn't that supposed to be a feature of the new stage kit?  Maybe it's because my traction control was on, should I set it on Competitive mode or off instead?

Thinking calling it a "Stage 2" kit a misnomer.  As far as I know it's simply called the Stage Kit (p/n 19212670), which reports to increases the stock 260HP to 290HP.

CED also now makes a GMPP harness (i.e. no more cutting/crimping into stock harness).

Or do what I did & contact ASAPdigitalimaging.com (Tom(?) to make you some "GMPP Tuned" decals for 3rd brake light/engine bay.

I don't know where I heard that, but I remember seeing it called a Stage 2 somewhere, which made me wonder what the hell a stage 1 was.  So, that's just what I called it, but from now on it will be known to me as "Beast Mode"

Pretty sure beast mode is a 2871.

If you have a 2007, I do not believe you have a sensor needed for NLS.  I  have a 2009 and I believe it worked once but with the power the tune is putting out, I feel more comfortable shifting normal.

Another way is to floor it in 3rd gear around 4k rpm   If boost is around 19-21 psi, it has GMPP tune.

Or, you could be at high altitude, having a warm day, it might be humid....  19-21 can happen.  Just saying.   


Find someone with HPTuners and have it checked. Or, ask the dealer.  Or find a Tech2.  Having the 3 bar sensors is one potential indicator.  Either way you slice it,  it would be good to get it checked and logged as there have been some instances of high knock in the GMPP tune.  Worth checking in to at some point, but not something to panic over right away.

Was a cool morning today (50 degrees), 3rd gear at 3500, and my boost showed 20.  So, I'm guessing it is installed.  Anyway, a friend of mine works at a Cadillac dealership so I'll just have to have him hook up the Tech 2 and tell me for sure.

You already checked and said you had the 'upgraded' Bosch sensors.  Therefore, you MUST have the tune.  The stock tune WILL NOT WORK with those sensors since they have a different mapping.  The stock tune would throw codes and run very rough under acceleration.

So try playing with the NoLiftShift. It's quite fun when you hit it

Click Next
Click Complete History
Now look under Calibration History for: Engine Operation for Part#s

get the wotbox and you can nls at any rpm instead of having to do it between 6200-6500 like with the gmpp.  its a lot of fun doing that only my stock clutch doesnt like it any higher than 2nd and my tires dont like it when i go to 2nd with a nls lol.

GM used to have a site that you could pull your own vehicle service history until they changed to a different layout and server.

All I know is that it took the dealership that installed my stage kit around 6 hours to install.  Not the physical installation mind you, figuring out the software.  I bought my kit from CED (because it was the best deal), however I was told the dealership computer wouldn't accept the number in/on the stage box assigned to the kit.  So the tech had to start calling GM.  That included constantly getting busy signals, constantly trying to get a hold of a person that could explain why the assigned number wasn't being accepted only to have to turn around and have a new number assigned to my Stage kit so that the dealership computer would accept it. 

The tech was great.  He kept me informed of the issues he was having and kept apologizing for it taking so long.  It still only cost me $80 bucks to have installed because our local Kappa club had worked out an agreement with the dealership beforehand.
