Hi from Germany,

I'm proud owner of a 2008 black Opel GT (Saturn Sky Redline), which I've bought in spring 2008.
Hope to live in the US in the near future and I would like to take my car with me. Has anyone an idea how to handle that?

Please have patience with me if my English is not so good in the moment,
but I don't have much chances to write or speak English in Germany.
(I've grown up bilingual, because my parents have lived in Chicago for a long time)

Since I've taken these Pictures I've changed the mounting of the license plate.
There are no wholes drilled into the bumper.

You'll wonder that my license plate is blank on the picture but I had to do that, because some bad guys here steal your car by locating it by the license number.

I have shipped a car from America to Germany and back, but it was easy for me being U.S. Military. I know for a vehicle to come into the United States, it has to meet emissions/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. Even for me to ship a car back that had a replacement hood, I had to get a letter from the EPA showing that the vehicle was certified through them. The EPA sticker, on U.S. cars is on the underside of the hood. Since your Opel GT was made side-by-side with other Kappas, there's a *chance* that sticker may be there - though I doubt it. It's worth a look, though - as that sticker will make your life easier when it comes to shipping the car here.

Hi 2kwk4u ,

unfortunately stupid Opel has removed all important stickers (can you imagine that also the cupholders have been removed).

I've had long conversations with GM about my car.
GM has confirmed that my car is the same as the Saturn Sky Redline and that only the speedometer needs to be replaced
(needs miles instead of kilometers).

For sure the Opel GT looks a little bit different, because he has different bumpers (no side-markers), different tail lights (yellow blinker) and so on, but the motor and all other parts are the same.
GM hasn't been happy about the stickers, but they can't do anything to help me.

So I will have to go the hard way.

You English is great, certainly way better than my German. Tried German in high school but I failed as I couldn't get a grasp on the language.

What stickers do you need and why are they difficult to get? Maybe we could order them from here and forward to you there if that would work better.

Hi Sly Bob,

I think these stickers aren't easy to get.

It's the EPA Emission Label (located on the underside of the hood) and the NHTSA Label (located on the driver side next to the tire pressure sticker when you open the door).

To fix your gauges, just replace the face. Go to this site and order a new one using the 160mph gauge face

I've found the labels, but they are not for sale.
I think the labels are specified for each car's vehicle identification number.

Are you sure? If you click the view button next to the price it takes you to a page where you can add them to your cart and order them. And yes the labels do have the Vin number on them I'm not sure but the vendor might ask for your VIN so that it could be printed on the label. If not you might be able to add it yourself with a printer.

it looks like I could order label 7 but label 4 (which I need too) is not for sale on the list.

I don't understand why Opel has removed the labels?

If you buy a Mustang or a Camaro here in Germany they all have these labels!

Opel GT was produced exclusively for ADAM Opel Gmbh, you couldn't buy one from GM directly or any other source than Opel Germany. The car was made for European market so that's why the GT didn't pass those US tests so lack of stickers.

If you pass the ADAC tests I'm sure u can pass US test easily, as far as I remember Opel hand me a certification (called EUR1) when I bought it so I could register it in Europe being under European regulations, maybe that one can help you out?

Ironhide: I bought my 2008 GT in black from Germany too, from a dealership about 100km away from Berlin and drove it to Romania myself.

thank you for the information.

I've checked the Eur1 on Wikipedia, that document is for customs use.
You're right the car will hopefully easily go through the tests in the USA, because GM has confirmed that the Opel GT and the Sky Redline are the same car.
The GT and the Saturn Sky Redline only have visual differences like the bumpers, tail lights and so on.

Oh and if I were you, I would sold the GT in Germany and buy one in US, hassle free. More years of warranty in US if you care about those.

If I'm not wrong price of a GT in Germany is around 15 000E which means around 20 000USD, you can buy a very nice one in US.

Worst case scenario you buy a sky here after you sell your GT, although it would be cool to have an actually GT here.
I don't see it being a huge issue. Just some red tape that will require you to pay some money and nothing else.

Your English is better than a bunch of American members.

That's the reason why I love the USA so much!!

Hope I will finally get a Greencard (unfortunately hard to get if you have the German citizenship).
I really want to live with my US relatives in Chicago and become after five years an US citizen.

I'm sure there will be a way to import my car!!

There has to be a way to get a replacement label like the one you need. If a car gets damaged in a wreck and the body shop replaces the door they should also replace that label. Anyone here work for or have a contact in a body shop?
