I have enjoyed all my new and used cars in my life and each in a different way.  Three of them stick out.  To digress, my first car was a 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air with the Powerglide transmission and it put out 125 hp.  A gift from my dad right before graduation from college in 1963.  Named her Big Bertha.  Lot of great times in that car and fond memories.  It had big front seats and a large back seat.  It was a great dating car.  I guess you always have a special place in your heart for your first car.  Well, that one was #3.

Another one that stands out was my '95 Firebird Forumula with the Corvette LT1 V8 6 speed and it put out 280 hp and loads of torque.  Bought it new, actually special ordered it, as I have many of my new vehicles.  It was a great sports car and loads of fun until I hit a '69 F150 truck head on July 27th, 2005 totalling it and just about me.  It was an absolute blast to drive, loved that red sweetheart.

But the vehicle that I have had the most fun with is my 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP.  It has been a blast since first driving it home, but the most fun I have had in it was when we traveled to the Nashville National Meet.  All the side adventures such as the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway in Robinsville, North Carolina, and the great friends we met at the Meet itself and the overall excitement of the Meet along with the Music and Charms of Nashville, Tennessee made for an awesome vacation, plus the great trip down and back.  That was our most fun trip and experience in "Miss Red Eagle".  :drag: :woohoo:

I think maybe running the twisties with Smartin the day we met, or maybe chasing DeepblueGXP at  insane speeds down a twisty backroad.

Hauling ass down twisty roads with Midlife and Goat to the last Upperville Lunch.    We were having so much fun we missed a turn and took the scenic route.

Just about every time I drive it.  All the people you meet, but best of all is Joe's garage, Chuck and I supervising all the work going on making sure everyone meets their deadline and doesn't hold up production.  Good times.

After buying my Solstice was the first time I have ever joined a car club and has brought a new found excitement into my life.  Having met other members that have now become like an extended family and hitting the roads with such great people.  It's too hard to pick just one event.  They have all been so great

That was a great day! I also liked Twisting to the River which is like cliff diving (driving) in your Sol.

For sure, the best time I have had in the Sol was after  a trip visiting my friend in White Sulphur Springs, WV. I traveled back to DC with nothing but a map. I did not get on the interstate once and cruised through the mountains all by myself allllll day.

So far, coming back from Joe's, after he installed the Wester's Race Tune and after the ECM "learned" the new curves.

Holy smokes!  :drag:

Looking forward to more good times ahead.

  • Enjoying the cool summer
I've been in a couple of car shows and was just invited to drive her at the Michigan International Speedway this summer.  Just my wife & I going to breakfast during the summer when our son was away.

Showing up some kids in various types of cars  :drag:  now that always brings a smile to my face  :D

Taking her to the drag strip, which I am anxious to do again soon, especially if I can get another IC!  Seems like Spiky was going to tell me about some secret project coming soon but I don't want to hijack this thread.....

Do I have to mention the "I'd only owned it for 10 days" story again?

Some people refer to it as the "Break-In" story....

Since I got the Sol and meet some great folks. The trip to KY was about the best eventhough there was nothing special about it execpt 5 Sols getting on down the road.

The best other car trip was in 1970 when the wife, the 5 year old and my self took the AH Sprite from Norfolk, Va to Jacksonville, Fl. and back.  Lost 4th gear and the speedometer on the way back. My son still talks about having to ride on the shelf both ways.
I'm very intelligent, but I mask it by doing stupid stuff.

I have a 2008 GXP so I have only had mine out one summer but the most fun that I have had was on our run to join everyone for Smartin's run at the Skyline drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We met all kinds of great people that week including many here on this forum.

Even stayed overnight at Joe and Dee's place and they were gracious hosts.  The run around the neighborhood with Joe that evening after we got back from dinner was a blast and one that I will not soon forget.  :drag: Unfortunately Denise, my wife, wasn't feeling well that night as she may have been dehydrated from all the top down driving. Fortunately she was feeling better the next day.

We would do it again in a heartbeat and we are looking forward to more day trips this summer. The week long excursions will have to wait 'till next year as my son is getting married this year.

A few months before the Skyline drive run, we took advantage of Pontiac's offer to attend a weekend of racing, their treat, to Watkins Glen International raceway. My son and I went and we had a blast meeting all the other Solstice owners there. We even saw about 15 minutes of the race!  :D

The Solstice Sky Owners of Ontario (SOOO) had a run from Toronto to Niagara Falls last August the 3rd. My wife and I met everyone including Igmyster in Port Dalhousie (http://www.portdalhousie.com). Took the run with the 18 other cars to Niagara Falls and then back to Iggy's place in Mississauga for a barbecue. We met a pile of GREAT people and had a blast. I hope that they can do it again this year. That's where I got the first look at Norms great fiberglass work in the form of Iggys stacked center duals rear valance. Iggy was the first to get it done.

That seems to be the story with this car. My wife and I have seen some beautiful places and met some beautiful people along the way. I wouldn't have traded this last year for anything.  :ghug:

Just trying to do my part...

Mods: Lose the chicklets, VentureShield, Dual horns, AfterShock spoiler, Weathershield cover, Lil Chromies, Red calipers with black Solstice stickers, Opel GT antenna and Solo GXP-RCD exhaust with a Solo hi-flow cat!

The most fun with The GXP was last year at the National Meet in Las Vegas. The tour of the Red Rock area north of LV was simply magnificent. Meeting and talking with many new people was great also.

Although the GXP is certainly the most fun car I have owned, it is not my favorite. The 1969 dark blue GTO that I purchased new upon returning to the World was my favorite (first car with AC). I never had a single problem with it and drove it across country several times. Regretfully, I traded it before going to Europe in 1971. I should have stored it on blocks while I completed the tour. Sadly, I learned from the dealer that it was sold in just a week and promptly totaled by the teenage buyer. So goes life….
07 GXP, Aggressive, manual, sport pedals, top liner, leather w/red stitching, XM/6 disc Monsoon, AC, Spoiler, Color Keyed Splash Guards, windrestricter, open exhaust (local shop), BOV spring, slotted/dimpled rotors & painted calipers, DDM Backbone
Other vehs - 66 GTO, 98 Firebird Formula (many mods), 08 GMC Sierra Denali, 01 Harley Ultra (Screaming Eagle mods).

Trust me when I say it is possible.  Took a lot of trying before we found a suitable configuration...

We'll just say that in the beginning, we woke a few neighbors to the rhythmic sound of short horn beeps....

probably the most fun I have had in my Sol was at the Deals Gap run last year.  We had a hot shoe run and had a blast carving through the mountains.
