Looks like these are fairly inexpensive, so i am thinking it would a good tool to have in my garage.

What size do i need so the threads match?

I am partial to dynamic compression testers since you can use them to troubleshoot what is causing low compression. Set the cylinder to TDC add some air pressure read the gauge and listen for the hiss. If it's coming from the exhaust or intake it's valves oil filler then it's rings bubbles in the coolent head gasket.

I think most compression testers come with adapters for the various thread sizes.

Not too good of reviews for that one, but now I know what to look for.
Unfortunately, I don't have a source of compressed air. Best I could do is use the tire compressor which probably would not be good enough.

As such, I was thinking about something like this.

Since I also have a Jeep and a truck, I am thinking the extra sizes might be beneficial.

You don't have an air compressor?

I have used a small compressor and one of those portable compressed air cylinders in the past when a real compressor was not available. Kind of sucked but it did work.

The other checkers like you posted will work they just don't help you find what the problem is they only tell you that you have a problem.

I have an electric Impact gun and use hand tools for the rest.

Well I hear a Whoosh of air coming out of the center of the engine when I turn it off.
I am pretty sure if I find one cylinder low on compression its a ring

Can you use the type you posted without an Air Source so that it functions like the one I posted?

That's what I figured. If I was going to pick that up, I might as well just drive a couple hrs further and drop the car off at DDM as that would only be a couple hrs more than a round trip.

I do appreciate the offer.

It's ok, I know it's pooched beyond my skill set to repair.

Yeap, a leakdown tester is going to tell you where it is coming from usually and definitely recommended. A compression gauge can at least verify though that you have an issue in a particular cylinder and they are relatively cheap, you can also check with a local Advance Auto/Autozone sometimes they will loan out tools for no charge, just have to leave a deposit which you get back when the tool is returned. That way you could at least verify there is a problem with the engine.
