New member from TX
« on: November 04, 2012, 06:28:23 PM »
Hello, I am a member on the Solstice Forum, but recently found out about this site and wanted to join as well. I recently purchased a 2008 Solstice GXP 5 speed with 30,000 miles and am loving every minute of driving so far! It's great to see the enthusiasm kappa owners have for their cars I and look forward to becoming an active member of the kappa community!

Just a quick before, to show what I sold to buy the Solstice.

Now to the good stuff! I have already done a few mods; trifecta tune, center console recovered by local shop, windrestrictor V2, tinted tails, tinted windows 20%. My only other plans are the backbone, rebar, and front brace. At least that's what I say now!

2008 Solstice GXP- 31,000 miles, 5 speed: Trifecta tune, 20% tint sides, 5% rear, Windrestrictor V2, tinted tails, leather wrapped and stitched center console.

Welcome to the forum.  Car looks sweet for 4 years old.  Nice center console too.  Is that a JPM one?

Heck of a trade up of trunk space.  You car used to make people pull over and slow down LOL

Thank you for the welcome! I actually had the console covered by a local upholstery shop. I was very pleased with the outcome and it is much more comfortable.

I did certainly lose trunk space and interior space in general, but the difference in fun and performance is well worth it! People did get out of the way with that car, now it's the opposite, I have to make sure I'm not run over by the many people with lifted trucks in TX!

Thanks guys! I am excited to be apart of this community! I am enjoying every mile driven in this car and find myself looking for excuses to drive! Luckily this time of year in TX is perfect weather for top-down driving. I am still adjusting to the many people straining their necks to catch a glimpse of what I'm driving! I got looks in the Mercury, but not nearly this many!

Where in Texas are you EarthNTX?

Lol, very true! I would have liked to have kept the other car, it was immaculate and I put so much time into making it my own, not to mention the excellent reliability. It was my first car and there was some sentimental value in it, but it was time for more fun! Being in college and on a tighter budget, I had to sell it to get the GXP.

I have been to the cars and coffee event a few times before I had the GXP. They do it Sat mornings here, which is tough for me to make because I work weekends. I will look into cruises or other local events though. I think there might be a Solstice club in Ft. Worth, so I'll have to check into that.

Wow, you are near Denton, Texas in Argyle, holy mackrel, as a kid I used to work in my uncle's restaurant on the square in Denton, Texas and what a great college town with a lot of beautiful young coeds and also as I remember rodeo's.  What great weather you have for top down driving!  Loved that town and the rodeo's were indeed awesome!!!  You are truly blessed indeed! :brnout: :usa:

I'm a student at UNT, so I'm very familiar with the Denton area and square. I do like it here and you are right about the weather! As far as being able to enjoy a convertible you can't beat it here, unless it's 110, so from June - September.   :D  This time of year is perfect though, cool mornings and daily highs in the upper 70s, low 80s. We are originally from New Jersey and have been in TX 7 years, but I do miss fall up there and driving down the shore.

Welcome to the forum!  My wife lived in Denton for a year before I met her.  Love the new car, nothing like being able to use a convertible year round, we are lucky.

Welcome aboard. Looks like you did some mods to that Ford/Merc too. I travelled around the USA in a Grand Marq 10 years ago and again two years ago in my Towncar. Very comfy, but half the fun of my 2008 Sky. You will enjoy this forum and the knowledgeable Kappa Queers (Can I say that?) in attendance. .......Blooper

The Grand Marquis was a nice car and with the mods I did drove less like a grandpa car, but still was nowhere near as fun as the GXP. That was one reason for moving to something new, I was never satisfied because regardless of what mods and money I threw at the car it would never perform or drive the way I want.
