GXP vs Base cosmetics
« on: December 07, 2012, 09:27:42 AM »
Here's one for my Solstice brethren...
What distinguishes (other than the badge) the GXP from the base model? (Aside from 2.0, turbo, etc.)

On the Sky, there's some tell-tale features, like:
Chrome cross brace (NA) on fog light assembly
Color matching side vents on NA (ALWAYS Silver on RL)
Chrome internal housing for headlamps on NA
Dual exhaust (RL)
Painted wheels (NA) – (not a rule though)
...might be missing a few, but you get where I'm going.

Just curious. Thanks!

Well the GXPs are normally characterised by quickly receding taillights.....

But seriously, I think you guys have hit the most notable differences. Critter - did you mean the existence of a lower duct for the IC when you said different nose shape, or is the profile otherwise different - I've never compared them side by side.

The profile is slightly different. The nose grills on the NA and the GXP are the same, except for the color. On the NA the grills sit flush with the nose on the top and bottom, but on the GXP the grills sit flush at the top, but sit slightly recessed on the bottom.

I think he is talking about the ducts leading to the wheel wells - presumably for brake cooling.

Oops I forgot about the lower grill for the IC, I will correct my 1st post.

WS the entire shape of the nose is more angular on the GXP, where the NA is rounder.

GXP nose

If you look closely you can see the creases above and below the fog/parking light going back to the grills, and also the IC grill below :)

If someone were to get me the CAD model of the GXP (besides finishing the recessed grills) I could overlay the two and people could see how they were different.

The rear fascia is different. Besides the obvious dual exhaust, there is only a small strip of honeycomb on the GXP vs. much more in the NA.

The seats are stitched with GXP...NA's have no stitching.

The drivers aren't necessarily different.  I know at least 2 people that have both an NA and a GXP. ;)

Or you can just mod the NA...slap a turbo or S/C in it and call it a day! ;)
