Xm antenna cable location
« on: April 19, 2013, 07:13:48 PM »
Hello,

My aftermarket XM module gave out and I am replacing it. Currently I have the antenna mounted above the temperature control module next to the GPS antenna. I would really like to reuse the factory antenna on the deck lid. My car had the original xm module. When I had the car torn apart installing my head unit I did not see an xm antenna wire connected to the monsoon. Did the wire connect to the amp behind the drivers seat? I know the module is on the right rear side by the tail light but have not been able to figure out where the wire is. Do any of you know? I don't want to run an extension wire if I don't have to. Thanks all!

Its been a while since I had my radio upgraded.
I know the XM module was under the carpet on the passenger wall side of the trunk.
I could have sworn the connector for the XM cable was there.
At a bare minimum, you should be able to trace backwards from the XM module to the head unit to see where you can plug in

Hey Joyce, long time no hear!

Elff has it correctly, the XM receiver module is in the trunk and connects to the antenna from there. So if you want to use the trunk antenna, you'll have to run a co-ax extension, I'm afraid.  Good luck!

Thanks Elff and Soup,

I went ahead and ran the cable to the same place as before but I installed the module where I can re-install the cable once I can get an extension cable. I should not need to take anything major apart to run it from the tuner back to the module. So to make sure I understand do I unhook the cable from the module in the trunk and then attach the extension cable to cable I just unhooked? Thanks!

Yeah been real busy with work and this is the first time since October I have driven the car. Got a new winder driver a 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman All4. Poor neglected sky :-(

After market antenna will plug right in, the stock antenna connector comes off with a press of a little tiny white clip.  The attached photo is an example.

Job done. I had to splice the antenna wire for the new XM tuner into the factor cable but all soldered and works and I get better reception. Thanks ALL!

So I just saw this tread. I just put a pioneer x850 in my sky with XM. The antenna is above the vent but I was thinking of using the oem antenna on the trunk. So do you get better reception from that one? My stock radio never dropped signal but the After market does.  I'm guessing it's because the antenna is under the plastic ac cover. I see a cable extender for $14 on amazon.

My aftermarket antenna is spotty as well. A few questions real quick. What exact extension did you end up buying so I can purchase it. Also I assume that it plugs into where the aftermarket antena is plugged I to.  So on the stock XM box which I have a pic below its, I disconnect the brown wire on the left side and plug that into the extension correct.
