Westers tune coming!
« on: June 10, 2013, 01:22:49 PM »
Did a full read of my stock ECM today and sent it to Lyndon. Have to do a data log for him tomorrow to verify the airflow for the MAF in the GMPP CAI and we're on our way. Looking forward to the final result.

Being a supporting member here at KP gave me a big discount too. What's not to love!

Holy crap!!! The car really is a rocket ship now. I sent a log to Lyndon to see if we need to do any fine tuning and got a P0106 about half way through logging. Manifold Absolute Pressure issue of some sort. Reset it with HPTuners.

24 to 25 psi boost that settles out at about 23 psi at half throttle and the kick in the ass I get, gives me goosebumps. When I first started running her with the new tune and trying to watch the boost on the DIC all I would get is "Low Traction".   :D  Need a lighter foot with this tune.

Looking forward to the final result.     :tool:  :tool:  :tool:

Dang! Ok, I need to get rolling on this, I got HP Tuners last month, installed on the laptop, time to get the ECM downloaded to send to Lyndon.  I could use a rocket  GXP too!

You really have to do it Melanie! People told me how much of a difference it made to the car and I wondered how much of a difference it could really make. I couldn't have been more wrong and unlike the GM tune I had considered, I'm not left wondering if the flash took or not as the difference between the stock and the Westers tune slaps you in the face.   :drag:
Put an updated tune on before I went to work. Gotta drive her home after work and datalog in the morning. The only thing I'm worried about is that I might break my neck as it snaps back!

And I was worried about a warranty...

Thanks Joe for your offer to install the tune by the way. This way i can enjoy it for the summer and Lyndon didn't know how available he was going to be the weekend of the MM :woohoo:

So, there is no detrimental effect to the turbo with that much boost? I had wondered about that.

KOOL! That looks like a good direction to head to...possibly next year though for me.  :wife:  :cloud:
This year I was going for the three piece set from DDM. But now thinking oft the Solo Exhaust instead, then the tune next year!

Yeah I have that too.  :wife:

Denise (my wife) asked if it would be any louder with the tune. "Not louder just quicker", I said but she didn't think that was a good idea.

The Solo exhaust is a good thing to get before the tune as are the braces. I got the HF Cat when I got the exhaust system from Solo. Westers gives free retunes with his race tune but if you get the exhaust first, a retune won't be necessary.

My opinion is get the braces first!  The exhaust makes no difference in performance if you keep your cat. The braces make your car new.

For the record, and I have changed my previous post to reflect that, I got the hi flow cat when I got my exhaust system. I should have mentioned that.

I have the Mach Shorty RCD on the car though and Solo claims a 19 HP increase and a 7 extra foot pounds of torque increase with that system and that's without changing the cat. Jeff told me that the car was dynoed with a stock system, fitted with a Solo system, in this case a Mach shorty RCD and was dynoed again. You can find more information here.

http://solo-performance.com/pe-gxp-mach-shorty

The Solo HF cat adds a 15 HP increase and 8 extra foot pounds of torque increase in performance.

http://solo-performance.com/pe-gxp-cat

The two together are great and sound fantastic. Those increases in performance numbers only remain if you have a tune on the car. If you don't have a tune the ECM will learn down and return the car to the stock 260 hp and 260 foot pounds of torque.

I endured the hi-flow cat on Kenny for two weeks, maybe less, I can't fathom how loud BoB would be cat-less, he's already loud with the Solo SR exhaust, holy ear plugs Batman!  :tool: And even with the cat in place, the difference from stock to SR was undeniable, couldn't creep up the ramps anymore, he kicked em out before I could blink.

Actually, the turbo cars are much quieter than the NAs. The turbo acts as a muffler. The same exhaust on the two cars and the NA would be much much louder.

Yeah Jeff at Solo said to me one time at his shop, that the turbo on the GXP or Redline "chops up" the sound and quietens it down.

That said, a few of us installed resonators on our systems after a HFC install.

Hope you have the t-bolt clamps installed on the intake side elbow.  That much boost will pop off the hose

Bob-
Any updates?  Do you need new tires yet?
How is the logging / tweaking going?  Any issues?
Sure is fun isn't it?
Wonder how my old hoopty is doing :)

I guess I'll get to see a few soon. Maybe I can get a ride with Bob?
