This is kind of annoying (Fuel gage innacurate near/below 1/4)
« on: February 21, 2009, 08:41:21 PM »
When the fuel gauge gets below 1/4 it starts acting funny.  Sometimes it will read empty and other time it will read 1/8.  The light will come on then after awhile it will go off.  Never had a vehicle be so sensitive on the fuel gauge.

What up neighbor.
Bought my Sol from a Ford dealer about 15 miles from you in Shawnee Mission.
Had to drive from Topeka though.

Had my 07 GXP in the dealership last October to flash a spare ECM and the shop foreman stated that there were several updates to the original program of which one had something to do with fuel gauge! Might give it a shot.

Hmmm I wonder what other updates it adds. Can SmallDealer check this out for us?

Before someone asks, when Wester's does a tune he includes all the latest updates from GM as part of the deal, he's kinda cool like that.

Never noticed this before as I fill up once the gauge drops to a 1/4. Most likely a problem with the GODS in the MYAN temple. Don't know if any updates can help with that, but it appears they tried.

My car did it a lot more when it was new. It would happen even if I had 3/4 of a tank especially if I parked at an angle. (Sideways on a steep driveway.) I know this because I couldn't get clearance on my parent's driveway and would have to park sideways before they had it repaved.

I have noticed that my gas gauge doesn't seem to be too linear in how it reads.  Kind of like x miles for the first quarter tank then x/2 for the next quarter and yet some other amount of miles for the remaining tank.   I just chalked it up to old school technology for the quantity indicator and keep tract of the number of miles I go between fill ups.

If this were on an old big block V8 I would have thought that it was just the gas gauge racing the tach to see which one could reach the other side of the scale first. :)

Found out last night there is a TSB #08-06-04-013 that was issued on March of 2008 about this issue.  It requires the dealer to update the ECM.
Actually went to alldatadiy.com to look up the TSB's and found the TSB.  I could not view the entire TSB without a subscription but I did take the TSB # to my dealer and they confirmed that was correct.
Disappointing thing is that I talked to the Service Manager about this issue a few weeks ago and even told him about a possible ECM re cal that U4EA mentioned and he came back saying there was nothing.  So he either did not spend the time to look or just didn't really look very hard.  The Service Manager did not come to hand me the papers today like he has done in the past Wonder why Hmm?  In any case I asked the service writer how that was missed and of course he could not give an answer which is fine.  I let him know that I'm very anal about things like this and as long as they take care of me I will take care of them on there Surveys with excellent marks.  I hope I made my point very clear and if not I will take my Service elsewhere and write the owner of the dealership a dissatisfaction letter sent to both Him and Corporate office.  Maybe they will get the point then.

Had my updated  last year.  Refueled on a long trip. pulled back on the Interstate and gauge read empty and the buzzer went off   :idk:  Knew I had gas so I pressed on and a few minutes later it was fine.  :drag: The dealer flash worked and so does Lyndon's.  :yay: :D

Mine only gets quirky below 1/4 and then it drops to E.  Does the re-flash fix that?, my concern is that the dealer will over write my Wester's tune.  I'll be able to scan the new GM tune but if I re-write the Wester's tune, then the dealers fix will have been for nothing.

The DIC doesn't seem very accurate either when on the setting for range, or miles till emply or whatever it's called.

That's actually what mine was doing so I'll see if that fixed the problem.

Anybody know what happened to the TSB list I posted?
I need to ask a ? on a few of the listings?  Some of them were on the odd side like Navigation system?  Does the Solstice or Sky have this as a option?
Also since it's just the list and I don't have a subscription I can't dig into the TSB any further than the basic listing.  If someone does have a subscription to alldatadiy.com maybe they can post more indepth info on each TSB.
Thanks

I find that mine depends on the angle that my car is parked on.  It has been pretty accurate when the car is straight, but even the slightest incline, decline, or tilt to the side causes the gas light to come on, even when at more than 1/8 of a tank.
