So I went to the dragstrip last night
« on: April 11, 2009, 03:00:17 PM »
There was a threat of rain so not that many showed up to run.  Got 6 runs in during the first hour, then took a break and watch the Outlaws run.  Made 2 more runs after that and left by 8.  Here is the last time slip I got.

Nice you made it into the 10's, that's awesome. Hope to see more time slips now that the weather is getting nicer.

Glad to see someone actually reads the posts.  My last run felt like the best one of the night but I will never know as I didn't get my timeslip.  Big traction problem all night my first run was a 14.5 @100 mph, last run I got my slip for was a 13.98 @101 mph.   I was coming off the line at an idle toward the end.

First run  (.500 is a perfect light)
rt-.764
60'-2.294
330-6.411
1/8-9.613 @78.49
1000-12.280
1/4-14.543 @ 100.48

last run I got my slip for
rt-1.039
60'-2.163
330-5.980
1/8-9.105 @ 80.08
1000 didn't register
1/4-13.989 @ 101.46

the other runs were all over the place trying to find someway to get off the line and power to the ground.

Not bad runs.  a 2.16x 60' is pretty respectable.  Less than a 1sec light is pretty good to boot!  It's been awhile since I've had anything worthy of running.  And I'm almost embarrassed to admit I've never ran a manual at the strip (excluding a motorcycle).  Can't wait to start hitting the tracks when I get back.  Not sure how eager I am to replace my clutch, though...  Sounds like it's a tough job in a GXP.

Kudos Critter!  Glad you got to hit the track and have some fun.  I'm jealous!!

It's nice that you can have a car that runs that good and still gets nice MPG.

Filipp,
Autostart means everything is electronically controlled.  Once you and the other side have staged, their is a pre determined time (30 seconds I belive) before the lights start their countdown.

I'm thinking only slicks are going to make a difference, and since I only have .4 seconds to play with, not worth the investment for one good run.  13.5 requires a roll bar with cross brace and front brace

Stage shallow..at a slight but unnoticeable angle leave when you see the last yellow come on..that will fix the rt..you would be running 13.5's or better with a better cut light..

That is when I leave, but since I'm leaving from an idle and trying not to spin the tires it takes a while.  :(

Hello I keep hearing about traction issues. Just a thought how would changing out for the track only, a set of wore out shocks for the front which I think would transfer more weight to the back for a better grip. Also disconnect the front sway bar from its end links. Any thoughts.

good start here and you can add those...

you should use BFG drag radial ,prefferably with a stronger clutch.
no  long burnout with those is required, just enough to remove stones and sand, couple of turn only
avoid at all cost the water puddle in the burnout box, drive aside if you can.

when staging try to be in the same groove as the previous guy to make sure you are on the cleanest and most sticky pavement..

top up, windows up, slightly overinflated front tires(less rolling resistance)
leave on the last yellow to compensate for a slow reaction time on your part.
remove all possible deadweight (tire inflator, floor mats, glove box content.
altough heavy, excess gas with be helpfull to provide traction and weight transfer.
take all your time to stage on the line after your opponent is fully staged, it messes with his temper and in most case ruins his reaction time.just dont make it too obvious...
if traction is impossible, try leaving all out but in second gear by increasing rpm on the line before releasing the clutch.
have that race attitude and don't let your oponent intimidate you with his open exhaust.
focus focus and focus again on that last yellow, nothing else exist at that moment.
if you are chubby and weight a lot, pull back the driver seat to aid in weight transfer.
Lightweight with no options 2006 stripper ! with added
GXP Z0K SPRINGS, FE3 Bilsteins shocks
GXP Z0K front ant rear sway bar
DDMWORKS stage 2 Eaton supercharger with intercooler
DDMWORKS hi-flow converter and long tube headers.
