Solo goes to Romania for the first time
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:23:29 PM »
Well,

I can proudly announce:
I'm the first owner with custom exhaust on Opel GT from my country and first happy romanian solo customer.
My mod was Free Flow Catalytic Converter (catless downpipe) and Mach System with quad tips.

Even took more time than expected, everything went smooth with 0 (zero) problems. 100% bolt on, I even had a bet with a friend of mine which said is impossible everything will fit and work perfectly, no re-dos, everything straight to the bulls eye.   to Solo people.
I have added only one special sealer for exhaust on the clamps as a matter of precaution everything else was in the package.

Because of catless downpipe I was afraid of CEL, but nooo, from the first run no cel, test it about 2 hours drive and NOTHING wet wrong other than my car trying to go sideways when I was WOT and ESC OFF.   When I took her for a spin my DIC was showing strong 25psi instead of 22-23psi before. I will test more.

I wanted maximum power and at quiet as possible that's why I went for this setup, I can't say it is quiet under heavy push but I can say is almost like the stock one under 3500-4000 rpm, it has a "quality" sound and pretty base, I love the rumbles on deceleration and some bangs from time to time which I think are because of catless downpipe.

For me this product is a jewel for my car

Here are some pictures:

Sorry I didn't made pictures with the downpipe  :gaah: but believe me that piece really looks like a piece of art

Solo Performance people: Steve, Jeff, Michelle and the others which I didn't interact with  :urock: keep up the good work, we, kappa owners need people and products like yours.

Looks and sounds great Kelu!!  I found that mine (same set-up but with dual tips) got a little more base sound to it after about 500 kms, which just made it sound even better :)

Awsome, Augustin!  Love the burble, sounds great and you dealt with great people at Solo Performance.  Steve is a great guy!  I have always liked the Solo, it delivers as promised.  Thanks for including the video, at idle absolutely silent, amazing.  You will love it Kelu.  Someday your buddie might get one as well, if I can talk my wife into it.  She likes the stock sound though, so will have to bide my time.

If you decide to come over to the states.  I promise that I will either drive "Miss Red Eagle" to where you are or fly there to meet you.  That would be awsome.

duckSol pheeew, almost everytime when I read your replies I don't get them until I don't read them 2-3 times with loud voice   but this time I understood it nice and clear    thanks

Thanks sir, I'm still waiting to settle down, did about 300 miles, sounds awesome at low rpm   but on heavy load it is pretty loud, but I suspect this is because of my catless dp.

Arabas learn from my mistakes.

I didn't installed the extender for O2 sensor, I can't find the reason: Solo forgot to put it in the package, the guy which installed my exhaust lost it before installed my system, and I get some errors (2 times until now) but without affecting the engine parameters (turbo still does full boost) and I cleared first time and second time it cleared by itself.

I presume I will get rid of that CEL with my wester's tune update or I will find a way to have another extender sent by Solo when Norm will ship my rear diffuser, it is that possible Steve?

I confirm, before exhaust I was doing 22-23 psi, after exhaust (without tune update) I'm doing a strong 25 psi

The westers update won't get rid of the error, the 02 sensor extendor will prevent the CEL/error code.  If it's not installed, you will get the code every 20 or so miles.   The 02 extender must be installed in a new bung location that is about 6.3cm aft and 3.8cm lower on the right side.  (basically low enough to allow for clearance of the 02 sensor with extendors to clear the frame on the car)

Hahahahaha!!!
Greg, i only said that as a pleasant change in my life!!
just kidding... after all my GT is not my daily car and my woman will show pity on me..

Deep Blue, thx for your advise on O2. Opel GT is not a car very well known by the mechanics (only 300 pcs in Greece), so hopefully i will guide them succesfully through the installation!

Arabas Chill about errors, having a CEL without knowing how to fix it is a pain like you had on your Audi TT, having a CEL knowing very well how to fix it is just same as the low gas warning, will no bother me and I will get it fixed asap. (this is the difference between US and European cars  )
After you will install it we want movies how yours sounds, especially me.

Solo Order for over seas.  If you are ordering the High Flow cat or CATLESS down pipe, make sure you tell them on the order that you need the front pipe with the bung relocated and the old one plugged as well as the 02 extender.

It's obvious that it is way more difficult to try to located or get in the mail a part that may have been skipped in packaging.  This can happen because the store in Buffalo sends out exhaust system for a variety of automobiles and I believe ours is the only one requiring the change w/extender.

So Arabas, if you recently placed an order and you are getting a new CAT, you better be making calls or sending emails as soon as possible.

I sent Arabas's order through today, and in the order I always request that an 02 extender be included and that the bungs are put in the correct location.  Don't worry Arabas, I made sure it was noted in the order.

Kelu,
I checked the order and we noted to have an extender included.  I will email Jeff tonight and see if he can get you out an extender.  Please make sure you didn't get one...we should have included it in the box. We have had a few customers whose shop threw it out by accident because they either did not read the install directions or threw it out because it is a small piece.  Deepbluegxp is correct with the placement of the 02 extender...it will be the one thing that prevents that CEL.

Steve: I talked with 3 people which was in the shop while I was doing the installation: my friend which transported my exhaust to the shop, the owner of the shop and the guy who did the install. All 3 have modified cars and know what is a extender for the O2 and how it looks, they are more knowledgeable than me when is about tuning parts. Nothing was throw away, everything including stock pieces were kept in a box which I used to transport Solo exhaust. I searched in that box 2-3 times I'm pretty sure nothing was lost. That extender could not be found.
Hold on with the shipping of a new extender, I might find one to our local tuning shop.

The placement is my issue now because I don't have easy access to a lift and the shop where I can modify the bung's position (weld) is 1-2h drive away.

Ok, I managed to find an extender even the shop told me this weren't especially for the exhaust. They use them for oil pressure gauges. They are from aluminum if i'm not wrong.

I bought:

One screwing peg to close the actual bung, I will welded also:
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

One nut for the new bung:
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

And two extenders (i didn't know if only one is enough):
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Tested to see if they screw together correctly:
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I'm still buzzing around here because it is a pain for me to find a lift to check myself everything.
As you can see those are Centimeters, 2,54 cm = 1 inch ; 1 cm = 0.4 inch

The threads are 18mm (0.7 inch) in diameter and I will test if the sensor will screw correctly in it, if can someone confirm will be great.

Should I go with only one extender or with both of them?

Thank you, I need a confirmation if my extender is ok and how many I should go (one or two)  , I don't want to do mistakes that's why I ask you guys, I don't want a new extender shipped as long mine will do the work  ;)
