DDM Performance 2.0 Ecotec upgraded 2871 turbo
« on: September 25, 2011, 10:15:33 PM »
What would the performacnce be like if the average driver who would decide to upgrade the internals of the car tothe forged pistons and the stronger performance parts.  In combonation with the stronger parts what will we benefit with the 2871 turbo. Have you done a turbo upgrade for someone who has upgraded the internals of the 2.0 ecotec motor?

No point in upgrading the internals with just a 2871 turbo, its not a big turbo, the stock internals will do just fine.

Mine has bolt ons, but no internal upgrades. Stock clutch. 350whp 380rwtq. Ive been at that power level for about 20k miles.

If you spend the money to build the motor, I personally would go for a bigger turbo. Either something like an EFR from BW or a 35r garrett

The 2871 will put around 350-360 at the wheels depending on other mods with high 300's torque. So far we have not seen failures of the the 2.0L engine in that range because of power. If you start putting around 400hp and 450torque at the wheels I would start saving for engine internals from what we have seen here.

As for engine internals and builds, we have done about 15 2.0L engines now down here with varying internals. If you have any questiions about that specifically, just let me know.

Thanks,
Dave

The clutch is the item that will eventually need to be upgraded with the 2871.
So far mine is holding up, but it's starting to slip a little  now.

I don't drive as much as Miller, but I have over 5000 miles on my 2871 now.

I still think this is the perfect turbo for our cars.   You retain the daily drivability but have serious power when you want it.  It's an incredible combo.

I am so glad this is the path I decided to go for my engine.

is this the "How do you make some kappa owners with stock turbo get jealous" thread?
i understand why someone would want to upgrade internals with the 2871, but if Dave says the engine holds up, then this is it...

Internals don't add power. Just stronger.

Ok it's true that you CAN add power by adding internals. But what he's probably referring to are just stronger parts from Wiesco and K1 etc. Which are just stonger.

You all have very good points in this tread I started.  Sorry for the confusion in my question at the start of the tread.

Bolt on makes more sense financially and I really didn't think about the two turbo upgrades that were done at Joe's Garage during the last mod meet.  I guess ill be saving up for the turbo upgrade.
