I am getting a lot of blue smoke out of the tailpipe. :banghead:  Not throwing any codes. Started about three days ago. Off to the dealer Monday. Fortunately I am still under warranty. :yay:

Good luck, let us know what they find.  I had something similar and it was a blown turbo.  With all my mods, they still covered it under warranty.

Not good probably the same as what happened to me cracked ringlands.
For grins if you have time just do a compression check to see which cylinders are affected.  Mine were bad enough that the car started to misfire a bunch.

Sounds like the ringlands may be falling apart. Can you do a compression test? Although come to think of it the wife's redline did not smoke that much. Mostly at idle after start-up. I took my GXP in to the dealer a few weeks ago to get the lock cylinder replaced and while there I asked if they had any news as to the cause of these faillures. He told me they have not heard word back yet but they have had a couple more 2.0's come through the shop with the same problem. I did not ask him what cars the 2.0's were in but it does worry me a bit that is seems to be happening somewhat frequently.

Took it to the dealer Monday. At first they said it was because DDM installed the OCC with gas line tubing and it was leaking . I told them it was smoking out the tailpipe. replaced tubing and it still smoked out the tailpipe. Called them this morning. They said they were still trying to figure out why it is smoking. :censor: :censor:

Dick,

If you end up needing a new motor, please tell your dealer you want to keep the core rather than having them scrap it.  I need that block.....

(usually they want to keep warranty items, however if they dont, I will gladly pay you a few bucks for it!)

They will want the whole engine back because they will inspect to see what went wrong, I don't think they will take an LE5 in place of the LNF.

Miller have you contacted any of the salvage yards about an engine out of a wreck yet?

I have called, emailed, pleaded, begged and scouted every junkyard in the US.

Through the power of google, I searched most, and the large "core" sales companies dont have any. I have called ~100 places in the past month or so looking for one. Ive sent even more emails.I have even tried GM service as well as dealers. I might as well walk up and ask for a photo of bigfoot, riding a unicorn in a jackalope hunt

Only thing that really seems to work is copart, but I will need to buy an entire vehicle.... which of course I have no interest in.

I will say that the amount of fully assembled long blocks is encouraging. Tons of them around. and they can range from $1800-$4000 depending on mileage and who is selling them.

I forgot to mention I have talked to Werks, DDM, mallet, bates, and I have found one, but it seems no one has one they are willing to part with.

Why not buy a whole engine and then you would have other parts to exchange for cores and such?

I would just rather buy a block and buy parts as I go, however its looking like I may have to buy a full long block and go that route.

Or I may just build my engine. Still unsure

It's much nicer to be able to R&R an engine then pull it build it for god knows how long and then reinstall it.  That way you can still drive the car while you spend time building the engine, ask Jimmy Baja.

I think if you look most of the big components that you will buy will also have a core fee, heads, cranksaft.  Plus if you end up with items that you won't use you can always resell them to someone else.

not sure. my biggest reason for not buying a long block is that I would just be throwing pistons and rods in the trash. Springs, valves retainers, in the trash. bearings, cams, seals and such... you guessed it. junk.

Crank, head and block would be reused. thats all.

I just dont see anyone wanting a set of stock used pistons, valves, springs etc. and even if a buyer did come along, it may be years until its sold.

Most parts salvage people know if they only sell part of an engine the may be stuck with the rest for a long time plus they have to tear the engine apart, that's why they only want to sell it as a compete engine.

Maybe I should find a long block for $2k take it all apart and sell you the three component you want for say $3500 plus shipping, that way you won't feel bad tossing out the parts most people don't reuse anyway.  I bet if you do actually find a head, block, and crank separately it will cost more then the long block, plus it looks like you will have to wait for some time before that happens.

heads are everywhere

crank is a toss up. but I have located some.

I have a few leads on "cheapish" long blocks. We will see what happens....

Check the compression on Piston 1 and 4. That's were my problems started...and ended with a new motor.   also, you can run your hand under the turbo (when its cold)    :slap:   to see if its leaking oil. Mine was doing both.

With mine they were suppose to replace my Motor and G/M central  said to rebuild it .Same block ,new pistons, rings rods, Valves ,seals , Turbo. " Knock on wood " So Far So Good    :yay:

I lost compression on two cylinders and ended up with a brand new engine a few months ago. Guess they couldn't repair it or it would've taken too long or...they had no idea how to service my car.  :gaah:

I know that at the GM engine plant that I work at, the returned engines get torn down to see what caused the issue and then the parts are scrapped. Changes in the process will ensue after just one failure and meetings are held to get everyone's input as to what caused the issue.

Believe me when I tell you that there's hell to pay if what caused the engine to fail is something that happened at our plant. GM doesn't take an issue like this lightly.
