I have been thinking about putting in an electronic cutout valve in the stock cat back just before the muffler, on the part that angles upwards.  But with my car being a daily driver, that goes through winter.  I have concerns about the unit's ability to resist corrosion with heavy road salt usage on a daily driver.

I figure since the sale has now been completed, the OP wouldn't mind my hijacking it . . . but has anyone put on a cutout on a daily driver that sees winter? How does it hold up to the conditions?

Might be a stupid ?
Im trying to imagine where the cutout would be and where the exhaust would vent after the cut-out i think our exhaust is really hot from the turbo.

In my opinion, there really isn't space to put a cutout like this without putting the exhaust too close to something so it may contact the body, or will direct the exhaust at the body until you get to about where i have put the red ring in the picture:

Plus, I find when you have a straight pipe exhaust, with that kind of length, it sounds pretty good, and less "blatty" and "popping" when you put it really close to the manifold.

Considering I'd just cut the pipe with my plasma cutter, and MIG weld it on myself, at under $200, I'd like to try it out.  But, I'm concerned with the daily driver and road salt my car sees, it will ruin the valve in no time.

Yes. I had an elec cut out on a full size Chevy truck that saw plow duty back home. It lasted 5 years and fell apart. The trick way to do what you want is to have a cut out, but then reattach to the stock plumbing after the muffler so everything looks nice and stock and you avoid all the pitfalls in the above posts.

Huh?  After you start saying "the trick . . ." I don't understand what you're saying

I basically want to weld something like this:

on the stock cat back where I put the red ring in my earlier post.

it all depends on what materials you use...

a piece of 309/409 SS tube, you should be just fine. If you buy some junky cheap stainless, it will corrode in no time.

Also on the cutout if you get a cheapo one, it will rust. If you get one made with quality materials (QTP or similar) , you should be fine.

I would recommend the QTP setups with the SS pipe attached. that way no welding is necessary... just cut a piece out and band clamp their piece in. (unless you have access to do SS welding/wire)

e-sarge has a nice cutout setup on his Solo exhaust, but I'm pretty sure his Sky isn't his DD so it doesn't see winter.  I can ask him though if you'd like.

Ask him what? his car does not see snow, so that has zero relevance to his question.

I think hanging out in the hood has made your brain a bit fuzzy

I wasn't for certain if Roy drives his car in the winter.  So isn't that relevant since the concern was corrosion???

I'd say my brain is just fine, but thanks for your concern.

Sorry to confuse. I had an adjustable exhaust set up. One that went through the muffle and one that went "around" the muffler. Using an electric cut out, I then had pipe fabricated to flow around the muffler and then tie back in to the exhaust plumbing and flow out the stock tips so from the back everything looked stock. The cut out was adjustable with a "volume " knob in the cab. It actually worked really well and was fun to play with. I tried it with just a dump and it sounded terrible so the additional plumbing was done. Eventually I added a couple small glass packs to the non muffled lines as it was just too much noise, but that was on a 350. Anyway, enough about me, let's talk about me for a while.

Perhaps I mis-understood and you just want an exhaust dump somewhere under the car?

I'm not worried about the tube corroding, I'm worried about the actual valve and its mechanical mechanisms.  And yes I have stainless welding wire.

Gentleman Jack, is your car a daily driver?  Does it see snow/road salt?  How long have you had it installed now?

Just wanted to thank Goat67 for the great deal on the Cat Back and looking forward to installing.  Thing looks almost New just heat colored that it gets  and the Muffler in still nice and Shiny like a mirror.  Actually asked him how long it had been on the car since it's in great shape.
Thanks

If you don't have one already, try to get a Solo cat to go in front of that system. It sounds great and if you have a performance tune you will see a gain in power. ENJOY!
Thanks
