New Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

This is the fastest Camaro yet. And it jolly well ought to be - it's using the Z/28 nameplate. Back in the late sixties, the badge meant a hot engine, stiff suspension, quick steering and twin stripes. In 2013, the rework's been slightly more... extensive.

It weighs 136kg less than the supercharged ZL1 thanks to fewer gadgets, little sound insulation, thinner glass and a lighter battery. It's also got a full aero kit, which comprises a front splitter connected to an underbody lift-reducing panel, a rear wing and diffuser. Chevy assures us it actually works.

Then there's the engine. It's a 7.0-litre V8 as you'd find in the Corvette ZO6. And it's been tinkered with by Corvette Racing, which means there's a dry sump, titanium intake valves, ported aluminium cylinder heads and a high-lift cam. No exact power figures have been released yet, but GM says it'll be in the region of 500bhp and 470lb ft of torque, transferred to the 19-inch rear wheels through a Tremec TR6060 six-speed, close-ratio manual ‘box.

To slow things down, Chevy's fitted a set of Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and six piston callipers. Combined with Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tyres (this is the first production car to have them fitted, fact fans), its' capable of pulling 1.5g in deceleration.

Reckon it's worthy of the Z/28 badge, TopGear.commers?
Nicee :D

Does this have the magnetic suspension?

For a big car. The camaro is a very good handling car.

When they say faster I assume their talking on a road race track? Three hundred pounds lighter would not make up for the additional 80 hp the ZL1 has when it comes to 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. Of course the Z28 was a road course race car instead of a straight line racer so that would make sense.

I expect to see this with a lot more than 500hp, in Vette Z06 already makes 500hp but this one should have lots of upgrades ( tinkered with by Corvette Racing, which means there's a dry sump, titanium intake valves, ported aluminium cylinder heads and a high-lift cam.)

So I would say it will come closer or match the ZL1 in power but in NA form.

I read somewhere that the Z28 was going to be the most expensive Camaro. Nice though.

Whan I look and see people around here buying Audi A4 with 2L diesel and 140-160hp for more than the price of a Camaro ZL1 I consider it a cheap car :) Is just a matter of perspective :D

Problem is that it isn't a sports car.

Might as well post truck reviews for all the relation they have to the Kappas.

Same make, I suppose, but so foreign to the sports car idiom that I wonder sometimes how sports car fans can get excited about them.  Guess they must really be GM fans, not sports car fans, which is fair enough.

I think it will sell for less than the ZL1. Shouldn't be long before we find out.

The ZL1 is around $60k depending on options.  The Z28 is 3 seconds faster than the ZL1 and looks even better in person than in those pics. I'm not sure on the price. It has no trunk carpet, almost no radio (radio and one speaker) and A/C is optional to keep it lighter.

It may not fall into the generic definition of a sports car,
But I have a feeling it will smoke most cars that are actual "Sports Cars"

It's the opposite of the overhyped Toyburu.
It can back up it's claims and won't lose a track test to a Honda Civic.

From the Internet

sports car
Noun
A low-built car designed for performance at high speeds.

Since we know they can't put anything on the Internet that isn't true.

-Bonjour

According this definition and using the recent post by Whspoon, the Camaro is neither low nor built for high speed.

I agree with this and I love about this aspect compared with european "sports cars". This remembers me, Cadillac CTSV vs Audi flagshit sport car R8 with Lambo stolen parts, same time on Nurburing between a saloon half priced that the "luxury sport model".

As requested.
The Misses was doing a photo shoot for Easter at the Zoo. This is what they came up with.

To make this relevant, I have always thought the best color combo for the Camaro was white with orange. Not much different from the long dress the Misses is wearing in this photo.

Not everyone hates anything with a V8.

Nothing at all to do with how many cylinders it has ( I own 4,6,8 and 12 cylinder cars and like them all).  It just isn't a sports car, it is a sports/sedan, also available as a convertible..

Sedan?

I guess if Mercedes can call their CLS a coupe, we can call the Camaro a sedan.

CLS- coupe like sedan
Camaro - sedan like coupe.

I get it.

I don't think sedan is the right word but I know what he means, sports cars shouldn't be approaching the size of a mid size or larger pickup truck.  Mustangs are the same way.  Insurance companies call them sports cars but they really aren't they're more of a cross between a coupe and a "boat" maybe call them a "Coat."

And what should we call cars that get spanked by grocery getters?

For the life of me, i cant call anything that loses to a Civic a "sports car"
