I was talking about the Saturn Styling mod.
Unless you remove the RFID chip from your cars secret location,

Everybody always wants to be like me :D

BTW, this might be a stylish alternative to having a key in the ignition all the time: http://www.saturnstyling.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=129_24_25&products_id=228

I ordered this a month or two ago. They charged my credit card and everything. After a month of the item not shipping (not available anymore) they credited my card. I wont do business with them again.

I've wanted to do this mod for a while now. I have talked with the people at Digital Guard Dawg and they have improved their system. You can now get push-button-start and keyless entry. It is an expensive system which i do have the money for, but i'm a bit apprehensive on whether or not i can find all the wiring i will need to tap into. The wiring to the ignition cylinder is easy to get to. The clutch safety switch, not so much. There is an additional data module that is required for our cars which DGD says they offer "a new service that greatly simplifies the actual wire connection process. One of our technicians makes all connections between the 2GO-PKE keyless module to the data module for your vehicle. This leaves only power and ground and a relatively few other connections between the data module and your vehicle.  ...the actual install should be even simpler." Total cost for the system is $620 not including tax. He says demand for these systems is high and there may be a short waiting period depending on when i order. Not sure if i could work out a group buy if enough people were interested. If there are others interested please post so i can have a tally and i will inquire about it when next i speak with them.

I tried to attach the install instructions for the new system, but the file is too large.

OK. I finally made the decision and made the jump today. I will be the guinea pig for this. Product will ship next week. Install involves three main modules, the start button, the passive/ keyless entry module, and the multiplex data module. I will be documenting this install and i hope to have great success with it. DGD, will assign one of their techs for tech assist since i am doing this for our forum and will be documenting along the way. They also said if i take pictures and/ or video they will give me some space on their site and post my pics/ video. Wish me luck...!!!

That is the site I wanted to get one from and we were originally going to get a set free to provide them documentation for our car.    I won't give them squat without a hefty discount....

I hope everything goes well.  Keep up informed.

OK, I gotta ask... what's the point if you have to put the key in and turn it to unlock the steering column anyways??? :idk:

I agree. Stupid thing to add if you still need your key in the regular ignition.

This has been covered. You cut the key head and remove the chip inside. Then, you cut the key down and shave it down, turn it to the on position, and leave it there in order to leave the steering wheel unlocked. Cover the cut key with some sort of cap as if it isnt even there. Place the chip somewhere so it can still be detected by the Passlock system.
From here on out everything is controlled via the units being installed by DGD. The DGD system senses (via the RF ID tag you have in your pocket) when you come within or out from 4 feet of the car and locks/ unlocks the doors. Senses when you are in the car and enables the engine start/ stop switch for vehicle operation. It's not for everyone and as i said it is an EXPENSIVE mod. I think i will like the added convenience of not having to touch anything except to start and stop the car.

Helios, I have thought of putting the key chip inside a USB drive that will be connected to my car PC and mounting it near the ignition so the car picks up the chip.  You can then remove the USB drive (in my case with my tunes on it and other things - would also use it to boot the car computer or something - multitask) This way i could remove it when I want to double disable the car.

Last month I tried to order the Saturnstyling key kit and ring - but they don't make them anymore...

I'll pas on this one. Don't want to void my warranty.

I have to agree that this looks like too much cost, too much work, and too much risk, for too little return. In addition to warranty, there is the greater concern with risk from disabling the car's built-in anti-theft system, should the car get stolen. Unless, of course, DGD has their own coverage for that.

My warranty was already void when i dropped in DDMs S/C. So, I wasnt worried about the rest of the warranty.

Only to the extent of damage that was actually caused by the SC. Major electrical mods would affect a completely different set of systems. Of course it is always an individual decision based on individual wants desires and concerns. If you want it, go for it.

So as far as the steering wheel lock.....  How do the cars from the factory do this?  Does the steering wheel unlock when you get in, or after you have started up the car?  With a little bit of research and time, I bet you could make this system pretty slick.

I'm pretty sure my car doesn't have a steering wheel lock. Checked this a few weeks ago for somebody.

Unless it is different for the Canadian models or different year models it should have a lock, my 09 does. Take the key out & turn the wheel & it will lock when it gets to a certain spot, sometimes it doesn't seem like it until you turn it far enough. Then it unlocks I believe when you turn the key to the 1st position.

By from the factory I meant cars with a factory installed push button start, such as the Muranos or the... uhh... is the corvette push button start?  How do they deal with the steering wheel locks?

Folks, we all know each other pretty well and have been posting and modding our A$$es off for years.  I THINK we are all well versed on warranty voids.  At this point, on this board, it should not come as a surprise that the stuff we do to our rides potentially voids our warranties.

Maybe we can just set up a warranty voiding thread so we can all warn each other over there and not pollute every thread with this redundant info...

Just sayin'...
