What did you do to your Kappa today!
« on: November 10, 2009, 11:38:54 AM »
I picked up a 2007 Sky with 14,000 miles. It has a Hahn turbo and K1S single exhaust. I've been sorting it out as most used cars can be neglected.  I changed just about all the fluids - transmission, differential, brake/clutch, and power steering fluids. The turbo was leaking oil so it got new bearings and O-rings.

The car came with a chrome stubby antenna that was not the best when out of the metro areas so I got a 31" from Autozone.

The stock tires tread was was twice the height of the wear bars and hard as a hockey puck in the rain. With snow season right around the corner the Pilot Alpin snow tires went on the chrome wheels. Also picked up a set of B&G lowering springs and will have it aligned this week after about 500 miles of settling.

I bought a GM tonneau cover for it and have it stretched out in the spare bedroom. That'll go in the spring.

Currently plumming coolant to the turbo and will relocate the power steering pump away from the turbo heat.

But I have to have it so I can put it all back together for the last couple of top down days!

Well it was Sunday, actually, but I finally got around to putting on the T-bolt clamps on the 'cool' side intake pipes (and I went and polished the aluminium section while I had it off).  Most of it is easy, but the clamp and rubber hose onto the throttle-body itself is a real SOB.
  :gaah:  :censor:

Can't get the hose on with the clamp in place, and the clamp (from the DDM kit) is too small to slide around the tight bend there. So I had to disassemble the clamp, push on the hose, and then reassemble the clamp around it.  Oh wait, but then the clamp is too small to show enough threads on the rod to get the nut threaded back on - AAAGGGGH!  And the space is SOOO tight there that you may as well just get resigned to losing the skin across your entire sets of knuckles. I had to grow two extra arms just to compress the clamp enough to get it back together. Right hand green arrow is the b*tch (image courtesy of Go-n-def):

Anyway, 'nuf said.  It's back together and secure now so I shouldn't be getting any pressure leaks.

(1) Added some air to the tires.

(2)  Cursed my burnt out Putcos, as I am down to only low beam on the driver's side.  Every other filiment is blown.

(3)  Thought about raising the ride height.

Sure, if you paid for them already and its too late to get your money back.  Just carry spares on board.  You're gonna need 'em.

Almost forgot my BMW jacking plugs. I've used these on all my GM cars over the years. Not only do the save the frame rail but they are soft enough for jack/jack stands to sink into unlike the metal which can cause the mounting point to slide.

BMW puck on the rightside:

DeepBlueGXP should be banned from this thread, not fair.

I have found some new pictures with my GT and posted in the Gallery.
I kicked the tires because I though they are deflated but I was wrong because of the low light.
I have spent 12 minutes to make a left turn and 30 minutes to travel from office to home which is not more than 3 miles.

Monday, saw 262 on the temp gauge   then it went back to normal before I could even get out of traffic, Wednesday, saw 262 again  and again it went back to normal in about 2 minutes, took it to the dealer and left it with them, only happens right after I start the car within 5 miles or so, then it goes away and does fine. Very odd

Bad thermostat/wiring? My dad had an old '81 vovlo sedan where the insulator had worn off. Every so often the bare wire would touch a ground and the temp gauge qould skyrocket, then fall back just as quickly.

Just how fast was it rising?

It is real overheat, seems like the electric fan is not coming on, then all of the sudden it finally does and temp drops to in the 190's. They just replaced some water temp sensor that was causing a CEL about 2 weeks ago, I am sure that has something to do with it. It's under warranty so whatever, they will fix it. My son and I were coming out of DC where we stood in the rain for 4 hours selling raffle tickets, we were wet and cold. When the temp is 262 the heater works REALLY well, actually felt really good  :D
