Have them check the timing chain for stretch while they have the cover off.

Just got 'the' call, before I could even get there. Head gasket, so off with the head, fixing the broken stud, and off with the front timing cover to replace the gasket, and while they're poking about in there, they will replace the water pump.

Approx $2600 and change, unless they discover unseen damage. Apparently being a convert, and nice enough for top down, saved my @ss on this one. Should have him back by late Wed, or Thursday. and, praise the Gas Gods, they're giving me a loaner, so Bubba T Bus doesn't bankrupt me  :yay:

That's a chunk of change but better than some of the possibilities.  Good luck!

That's only half the story G8TR!

Perhaps some DDM fenders are in your future?

They may be. I need some paint work anyway. I have been talking to a couple of shops.
Yes GJ, half the story. Found a broken fender while placing the pucks. Then again I could go with Norms fenders also.

Ab-SOL-utely! Told them this was the first, and last chance for them to get inside this particular engine, next major issue will be bye-bye 2.4, Hello crate engine...I'm thinking a nice little Diesel would be a novel setup.

I don't know if your serious, but I am a huge fan of dropping a twin turbo small 6 cyl diesel in the sol.  I don't know how to do it, but it would be a MONSTER!

Went down to my old Korean stomping ground yesterday, about a 3 hour drive through crappy weather.  Got down there and the clouds parted so it was a good time to wash it!  Went out drinking all night and woke up with a massive hangover.  Once I got my balance back, I drove back home, top down the whole way. Hello sunburn!!!

Any way, I stopped and filled it up out in town.  59,000 Won for 28.5 liters of premium.  That's roughly $54.39 for 7.5 gallons or $7.25/gal!  Ouch!

Would be interesting! The first turbo diesel SOL! I say when it is time, GO FOR IT!

Only question would be the exhaust smell from the diesel?

that would be the most interesting and weird mod for a kappa!!
would certainly love to see this..
actually the LNF (as stock) has been described as a kind-of diesel engine with almost double the rpm range.
this description comes from the torque, the "easy" way power builds up and the low end power.

really looking forward to see this!

:urock: But, for that repair quote and the potential for a cost over run and the 'inside' you got, I'd be road tripping that 'unit to DDM :poke:

Is the repair under warranty

So you decided that Soju was a drink of preference???? Gas prices really suck there, but with the price of oil going as is I expect us to be at $5 per very soon.

Damn you Mother Nature!!!    Today was suppose to be 60 and partly cloudy ... a perfect day to do Spring Detailing .. but NO, you change your mind and go all overcast and cooler with misting and crap!!  :gaah: :gaah: :banghead:  Chance of severe hail tonight too!  :slap:

So much for best laid plans ... Spring Detail will have to wait until the next nice day that falls on a day off.  Tonight the Sol will be gently covered in thick comforters.  :gaah:

If you went from stock brakes to the Porterfields, don't drive hard for a while, then do your bedding. The Porterfields will scrape off the stock stuff, then deposit it's own when you bed.

Looking good, Derek.

Detailed mine and then went shopping and to brunch. SKYJACK is right -- you can clean the chrome wheels with Windex and they just sparkle. :D
