Flags for the Solstice Buttress
« on: December 28, 2008, 08:40:31 PM »
I received a pair of flags that KYGXP was working with for the SEM in Lexington.  There was a minor change made to allow it to hold onto the release wire.  At 45 they began to vibrate and become loose,, so I modified the flag mount and the bottom now holds firm.  I tested them to 70mph today :woohoo:

For those of you who have been to my place, you'll recognize the roads.  Everyone else can be jealous , the day temps topped off at 75F.  Great top down weather.

I spent some time talking to that guy also.  He asked me to post my fix for any of you who have the flag caddie, the base has a (for the lack of better words) a nipple that sits into the buttress.  Cut 1/2 of the thickness of the nipple off.  Since the design change to the lower section was knotched on a 45 degree to hold the pin in the buttress, the grip edge became lower by the same thickness of the new knotch.  Cutting off 1/8 inch of the nipple allows the screw to tigthen enough to firmly hold onto the pin without bottoming out.  Do not over tigthen as the base will turn off the pin and possible launch off the car at speeds.

These flags were intended for parades, so cruising down the drag strip or lonely road at speeds greater than posted may cause the flag to depart the vehicle.

They stayed on really well Joe. When I was down to your place this summer I know that those roads around your place should make anyone living within 100 mile radius of the Tail of the Dragon extremely jealous.

Nice video, nice day and nice hat.  :D

The first picture shows the stock end of the flag caddie with the threaded in retainer

The second picture shows what to be cut off.  Remove the threaded retainer before cutting.

I like where they're mounted on our cars a lot better than where they go on the Corvette!

Yup, need to think of our Canadian friends.  I hope they have forgiven us(US) from attacking them in 1812.  They actually kicked our butt and burned Detroit.  BTW, if you guys want it, you can have it now.  Ya just need to make some improvements.

A little green flag with a leprechaun on it maybe.  No Joe, I will not pose for a picture and I am not wearing that stupid green hate.
