I spent some time talking to that guy also. He asked me to post my fix for any of you who have the flag caddie, the base has a (for the lack of better words) a nipple that sits into the buttress. Cut 1/2 of the thickness of the nipple off. Since the design change to the lower section was knotched on a 45 degree to hold the pin in the buttress, the grip edge became lower by the same thickness of the new knotch. Cutting off 1/8 inch of the nipple allows the screw to tigthen enough to firmly hold onto the pin without bottoming out. Do not over tigthen as the base will turn off the pin and possible launch off the car at speeds.
These flags were intended for parades, so cruising down the drag strip or lonely road at speeds greater than posted may cause the flag to depart the vehicle.
