I got a service airbag light today? It was going on and off, but now stays on. Any ideas?

Seriously though, this code for bags will be a dealer thing and I hope under warranty.

Actually, since you've had both of them off for one time or another for JPM, perhaps a connection has come loose. Do you know how to pop off the steering wheel center, that may be your problem. Pull it off and reset the connectors. Don't forget to take off the battery ground first.

Also how about the 2 crash sensor plug/connections under the hood on the frame just to either side of the radiator.

No NO NO NO. ALWAYS remove the NEGATIVE terminal first, and reconnecting a battery reconnect the negative LAST.

There are some really important things to understand when fooling around with airbags.
1) You CAN be injured. No joke, kidding, or exaggerating.
2) The slightest mistake can deploy an airbag. Static discharges, a spark (voltage spike) at the terminals, or banging around the sensor can do it.
3) The COST of a mistake is expensive. And if the right side bag goes off, it means a dash panel as well. FOUR FIGURES boys and girls.

As a Snap-On dealer I saw too many airbags deployed due to lack of proper tools and expertise. Every time they go BANG it's 4 figures.

The best reason I know is that if you remove the negative cable first, you aren't completing a short-circuit if you hit metal in your car while you're removing the positive cable. If you remove the postive cable first, you run the risk of hurting yourself or the car if you accidentally run the ratchet or wrench into metal while you're unbolting that cable b/c the battery is still grounded.

I avoided all of that danger and left it at the dealer overnight LOL. They actually care about my car, which is why I trust them. I was lucky to be led to a good dealership with a fantastic service department. They pull my car inside every night so nothing happens to it. I was also having an issie with the radio display...sound works perfectly, but the display disappears and then just a few pixels show up. They are working on both at the moment.

The real answer, 2k gently explained to you. You stand the danger of shorting out the car which could destroy the electronics and cost you big $$$$$$

The "shorting" potential does exist, but the actual issue is the size of the spark, and thus the size of the voltage/current surge, that occurs when reconnecting. If the positive is attached last there will be a larger spark than the negative terminal. Before people start throwing things, it makes NO sense, but it is true. Same with jumper cables. read the instructions for connect/disconnect and the attachment is ground last, and detachment is ground first.

Most of the time we deal with electronics we use the current flow model, though in reality the less intuitive electron flow model is more correct.

Hmmm. Back in the mists of yore, I was an EE... I can think of no reason whatsoever why a spark would be hotter when attaching +ve vs. -ve. 12 volts is 12 volts whether it's at the +ve end -OR- the -ve end.

But be that as it may, it certainly has nothing to do with the order in which you attach jumper cables. You attach ground last because having a +ve ally-clip floating around at the other end where it can short to ground (if the -ve is attached first) is a very bad thing. Whereas if only the +ve is attached first, a loose ally-clip at the other end is less-likely to do any harm.

There's that and the issue with finding a ground on the car being jumped that ISN'T at the battery. If you happen to have a battery that's out-gassing (Hydrogen gas) and you make a spark right on top of it, it can get exciting! At least, um, that's what I've been told.

I actually had a battery blow up while charging it. Acid got all over my shirt and pants and made numerous small holes. So it can really happen.

Scared the heck out of me and I was lucky none got into my eyes. This was 20 years ago so I do not know what I screwed up but now I just follow the rules as well as never hook the ground to the battery terminal. I find a ground on the car. BTW, never use the ground on the solstice battery or you will short out the fan.

Boy, is THAT right. I don't think it "shorts" the fan, but rather the surge blows the 60 amp fuse.
