I don't have any mods, except for the Trifectia Tune. When I do look to Mode, I will consider SOLO.

Duck ; For what its worth Koons in White Marsh MD. JUST put New Pistons ,Rings,Injectors ,seals ,Turbo and more (2 )weeks ago . I was Blowing out Blue Oil smoke also .I have a Magnaflow 3" exhaust on my GXP. they didn't attack that. Change out what they want and Let them check your Engine .
I Hope you can get it resolved without a lot of hassle[attachment=1][attachment=2] sorry they are not to Clear BUT this is the list and reason . I just got the car back Friday 2/11/2011

I'm not so sure the issue is actually the dealership but more along the lines of the GM tech center. I currently have the Solo street race cat back only exhaust (which I love very much) and I heard the same from my dealership last year. I took my car in for engine surges and the P0101 code and after the tech could not figure out what else to check he called the GM tech center who said the same thing Duck is being told, "return car back to stock or we cannot help". I asked how straight pipes could cause this issue and they said they did not believe it was causing it but that the car had to be stock before they go any further. Needless to say I ended up soldering my two GMPP sensor connectors and problem solved but the point is that anytime that damn tech center is called they want a bone stock car before they help. I bet they would help a lot though if the car was not under warranty......

I just want to correct something, from the factory our cars DO NOT run rich, they run much leaner than most, the guys who have dynoed my car thought there was something wrong, all Direct Injected engines do. Did anyone realize a lean condition can cause black smoke? Does the car have a tune, does not seem too, changing the exhaust to a better flowing exhaust without a tune will cause the car to run even leaner, a dangerous condition for sure. Black soot is not the same as black smoke, it is normal.

I have yet to see how much smoke or when it occurs, is it just driving down the road or under hard accelleration?

Uh how's does duck drive his car could he just have allot of carbon build up. When I put my dp with mid pipe on my jetta it blew tons of smoke cause of carbon build up. After a few trips of aggressive driving it went away and has never come back

Unfortunately, in today's world once the manufacture is consulted, they want the cars stock before any help is provided. It is rare these days that dealerships can make unilateral warranty decisions. I understand this is HQ's mandate.

Heck, dealer replaced my turbo and even hooked my solo back u.
It is all dealer dependent no mater what people post about
Tech center or rule changes.

Have had a hi flo cat and exhaust from solo for over 40,000 miles

At this point I will probably take Joe up on his offer and schedule something during the parade. Since this was the second dealer I will probably go back to the first one (messed up my trunk and interior panels) since it will save me in gas and time. If that fails then I will try the 3rd closest (Smartins) in Arlington and worse case scenario chuckdocs if the dealership is still authorized. I just want it fixed and hope it won't cost me anymore time and money. I'm sure the issue is not directly related to the exhaust, my driving habbits (mostly highway cruising) or fuel. Pretty sure it's the turbo like chuckdoc. The root of my complaint is I was understood that this would not compromise my warranty and as you clearly see GM says it does. Just because it's close to the original, that it was used elsewhere or that it hasn't happened to others does not mean it's 100% warranty compliant.

Now that my VIN is pretty much red flagged I don't think I have any other choice but to swap it back. I love my exhaust, I really do but unless you are willing to go through what I have and what I may still have to go through or pay for, you should think about it.

Paul, seriously, depending on the dealership they will try and get out of warranty coverage any way they can. My fuel pump/fuel rail went and they were trying to tell me I used the wrong oil and did all kinds of crap wanted to charge me $3,000. We had been arguing back and forth for about 3 weeks, I finally had my boss call and he left a brief voicemail for the GM rep (he obviously thought we were a law firm) the next day they offered to "agree to disagree" and cover the work.

Whether you have it in writing from Solo or not, I really don't think that would have changed anything. I would think Solo (or anyone else) would have to be a GM authorized vendor to be fully compliant with warranty work.

Dealerships around here don't know much about the car so they simply call GM (run to momma). GM (momma) says it's too different. I am pretty sure if the 02 sensor was in the same position and didn't use a spacer they would have moved forward but with the emissions system set up the way it was GM was not going to authorize possibly hundreds or thousands to have it be the exhaust. No, nothing in writing and I have already heard it from my wife and cousin enough times I could shoot myself.

I could just swap tags with Reed......Hmmmmm.

Exactly. Swap back the exhaust that was offered to you, get this fixed, and swap it back again. Pain in the butt, but what choice do you have? If you want to permanently get rid of your exhaust and go back to stock, I am sure there will be takers.

Chuckdoc drives to Manasas and used the same dealer that Lil Goat and several others use.

At this point you have to change the exhaust to go any further, you could continue to argue until you are blue in the face, but as you said they have flagged your vin and no one can touch it until it goes back to stock. The fact that you have no CEL's and no one can prove that it caused a problem doesn't matter. Momma said, and you have to play by her rules.

The above is what he is upset about, it seems that SOLO at some point said their product would not affect the warranty on the car.
Not sure where the mis communication is, but Jeff if there is somewhere in your advertisement the above information, I would certainly deleted ASAP.

LV, there is absolutly nothing in the invoice on the first post that says they won't honor the warranty. It just states that they won't continue troubleshooting until it's returned to stock.

He is talking about SOLO not GM.
My understanding from his post is that when he purchase the SOLO exhaust he was told it would not compromise his GM warranty.

ok i believe i have read this thread a couples times, and im pretty sure the op has been asked and not stated what the color of the smoke has looked like.
this is what oil/blown engine smoke looks like. if its black then you probably don't drive your car enough or hard enough.

Under the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act as long as the after market part IS NOT the cause of the problem then the warranty cannot be voided. Nor can a warranty be voided if the aftermarket part is in no way related to the warranty issue.

The dealer has yet to determine the actual problem here and has requested that the car be returned stock in order to properly diagnosis the problem. IMO if the tech said that the OP's warranty was 'void' then he mis-spoke! There have been dealers/techs state that warranties were 'voided' because the car owner changed the radio but the car was brought in for a suspension issue... just lack of knowledge.

Joe, Yeah. This and first dealer could not appearantly reproduce the smoke. Had to drive the head mechanic and show him. I hope your right on the warranty.

LatinVenom you are 100% and it was verbal since I ordered everything via phone.Couldnt find SKY stuff on the website. Live and learn.

Guess I am just going to go the easy route and drive to Reeds and swap the plates. Shiny what radio presets does he have? Country and Blugrass mostly right?

I heard Manassas was good but Momma said I can't go there no more. Pain cause it was not far from one of my stores. These new authorized places have never even seen these cars nor changed the oil in them. I asked the shop foreman at the last dealership (Chevy) and he had never seen an LNF period come in for anything. Figure they would have messed with a Cobalt SS but nope.

The first dealer screwed up some paint on the interior and they sent it over to Ferarri to fix it rather that across the parking lot where they work on vetts. Maybe thats why it smokes now. LOL
