Topic: 2011 Romanian Drag Racing

I will update this topic though the 2011 with various pictures and videos from drag races from Romania and maybe Hungary.

A little bit of introduction:
2011 was the first year when Romania had first National Drag Racing Championship organized by Drag Racing Events, an association formed by 6 founding members, all of them racers and car enthusiasts to raise the level of drag racing events in Romania. Basically we were getting tired of crappy and expensive races at poor quality of organization because were taken care by non enthusiasts people who were aiming only profit.

Behind of Drag Racing Event is a great guy who could afford to invest in some timing equipment from US in 2009 and has a lot of passion, he gathered 5-6 racers (I'm one of them) and we started to test our skills in 2009 organizing 4-5 races in various conditions based on what we experienced as racers in last years and having good examples from our neighbors Hungarians / UK / USA.

This winter we had a meeting and decided everything, I participated in Regulation and Groups classification papers and I was assigned with technical registration position.
We rented 2 airfields (one in West and one in East of the country so we cover the as many areas as possible) and made a schedule, one race at each 3 weeks alternating location.

First race took place on 1st of May 2011 in West and 2 most important national records were broken:
- Best ET 9.9s (previously 10.4s Porsche 997 Turbo Switzer P800) by a Nissan GTR R35 tuned in England

2nd stage of Romanian Championship took place in East on May 29 2011 while I was in US, the number of cars increased a lot (around 100) also the public (about 2500).

Here the most 2 important records got improved again:
- Best ET - 9.3s - Nissan Sunny - 2L (not stroked) 4x4 by Exelixis (my tuner) - this is actually a world record because no other Nissan Sunny did that time, previous record was 9.8s by the greek driver of the car from video. My tuner and owner of the car is the guy taken up in his arm by the driver in the cideo, he can't drive the car because of a hand injury suffered by this car accident on street about 3 months ago. Basically they finished the car and took it out for spin and couldn't give up racing a 1000cc sport bike and he got crashed at 150mph, very lucky because he had not roll cage (it arrived second day after the crash) and he got only a hand injury.
- Best Diesel ET - 12.7 Audi A5 3.0 TDI
- Fastest 2L TFSI (VAG group - VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat) in the world 10.99s - Audi S3 - this engine is very similar with ours

3rd Stage will take place in West on June 11 2011 and will count for Central - Eastern Drag Racing Championship and is sponsored by Chevrolet, this race is on his 4th edition and is the place were I took 2 trophies last year (fastest Opel and 3rd place in my group in championship in 2010) and second place in my group in 2009.
I will miss that stage also because of lack of founds and not working car, all my hopes are for July 3 on East race. I will report back about these stages also.

Actually those 2 were there for a topless car wash between qualification and finals to the fastest ET car in qualification round.

I hope to have the car done for first test on 3rd of July but everything is about the turbo.

In first race the results were weak because of the rain, something like 13.3s best ET in my group.

Second race on the other hand completely different situation, over 30 cars competing in my group and great weather. The fastest cars:
- 12.6s Skoda RS - 2L Turbo FWD - rebuilt engine and bigger turbo
- 12.7s Seat Leon Cupra (older version) - rebuilt engine, bigger turbo and many other mods
- 12.7s VW Golf V GTI aka MKV - APR turbo kit
- the others were over 13s

I don't aim to beat these guys from first race, my aim is to have the car running good and do a low 13s, aiming a place in finals and from there the races are mostly based on driver.

Pat aka GXPsy was an Air Force brat and grew up in Greece and Spain. Topless was the norm on the beaches there for her. As far as she's concerned Americans are all too uptight about the issue. If she had her way all the women here would be topless. She won't be the first to remove her top...but she will be the second!
