Boost level with GMPP tune
« on: October 07, 2011, 11:41:49 PM »
My car has the GMPP tune, CAI and exhaust and I noticed it goes as high as 18 lbs of boost and then tapers off to 15 lbs after it upshifts a few times. I believe I read it should be more like 21-22 lbs with this tune so should I adjust the wastegate rod a little or will the computer just lower it back down to 18 lbs or less again? I'm thinking if I shorten the rod the boost will go up and stay there but I figured I'd ask the experts. I checked all the clamps and there's no obvious boost leaks anywhere. I'm running 93 octane Sunoco Ultra and don't hear any knock but I don't have an OBD2 reading device yet so I can't see what the computer "sees".

18 lbs overvoost and 15 lbs boost sounds like factory numbers and not GMPP. before doing any wastegate mods, i believe u should take it to the dealer and have them re write the gmpp tune on your ecm..

It completely depends on the atmospheric conditions.
People in higher altitudes will need higher PSI to get the 290hp at the crank whereas people in lower altitudes won't need so much.

If you are concerned about it running properly, or just want to have fun verifying it, take it to a Dyno.
On a Dynojet you should get about 260-265hp at the rear wheels

I believe you are actually ok.  I rarely if ever hit 20psi on my GMPP tune

Also the Automatic may behave a little different and your readings are actually fine.
However as elff said altitude definitely plays a part on the numbers display on the DIC.

That makes sense, I'm pretty close to sea level where I am. I'd like to dyno it sometime so this gives me another reason to. Just out if curiosity if someone had removed the GM tune and put back the stock tune wouldn't it run weird with the Bosch  3 bar MAP sensors in it? The car runs perfectly.

That's what I thought. Thanks!
By the way I checked the elevation in my area and it's 100 ft. I knew it was pretty low....

Actually Bobby if you look up the information for your closest airport you can find the elevation for your area in this case Nottingham MD is close to Martin State airport and a quick check shows that the elevation there is 23 ft.

You would need to put the 2bar sensors back on with the stock tune.

You can run 3 Bar sensors with the stock tune. It's a new trend on the HPT forums. I'm going to actually start doing this one day.
