Topic: 9.5 wheel offset/fitment question

So, I think I found a set of wheels I want to go with on my Solstice... TSW Carthage:



They are Mercedes fitment 5x112, but I found a set of wobble nuts that will allow them to fit.  So, I was planning on running an 8" front wheel with +45 offset and 245's which will fit fine.  On the back I wanted to go with a 9.5" wheel with a +53 offset and 275's, which would move the outside out 21mm and the inside lip would be 17mm closer to the inside of the car.  So, basically I wanted to see if they would actually fit without hitting anything.  I tried doing a quick measurement and it looks like the fronts would be flush with the fenders, the rears will stick out a little bit, and I should have enough clearance inside the rear wheelwell to fit.  But, I figured I would ask the all-knowing experts of this forum just to be sure.

Also, another question: Has anyone ever done 18's on the front and 19's on the rear, a la Corvette?

Link to the PCD Variation nuts?  Are you converting over to a different stud?

As far as I know our stock wheels fit to 5x112 bolts so 5x112 wheels should fit also on out 5x110 fitment.

Here's a 275 tire on a 18x9 with a +55 offset, i needed to add a 5mm spacer to get rid of the tire rubbing the frame on the inside.
I also added a bit more camber since i took that pic and rolled the fenders, the tire will be rubbing the plastic fender piece if you're lowered but that's no big deal.

I'm doing the staggered wheel look purely for looks.  I know it's going to affect the handling a little bit, but my car will never be on a racetrack so I don't think I'll notice the difference.

I'd like to see a 19/21 set-up.  Was thinking of 20/22, but seems like most folks who go with 22s going back to originals because the ride becomes to hard.    Remember reading somewhere that a little know fact is the tire sidewalls acts or is considered part of the suspension. 

BTW, those are some classy looking wheels.

I have OZ 18x9 Rear Rims with 275s and am only rubbing the wheel liner.  I have no frame contact.   The rim is really close to the upper A-Arm though.  I wonder if that will be an issue with those rims.

As far as the handling goes, it has had zero negative effect on handling.  I don't know why people say or think that.  As long as the alignment is correct, it's a non issue.  There are tons of cars running staggered setups.

Not a bad looking wheel but not sure it fits the solstice lines... I liked the wheels in your original post much better!

The issue with wheel offset is more about centering the wheel load over the centerline of the hub bearings. If you move the wheel too far off the hub centerline you then have the inner or outer hub bearings carrying the greater forces. This will adversely effect the life of the bearing assembly and may cause some instability issues.

Can anyone else confirm/deny this staement?  Kelu, can you clarify or point to a source?  I've been dreaming of Lorinser LM6 wheels for awhile now, but always worried about using wobble nuts and/or having to re-drill 5x112 wheels for a 5x110 bolt circle.

All I can say for sure, my stock wheels went on an Audi which is 5x112. The guy drove them a lot so no issues over time also.

That may be so but the lug nut still isn't making perfect contact with the wheel since its sitting 1-2mm to the side depending how evenly the lug nuts are torqued down, unless the stud is bending when its torqued, who knows but its not ideal.

If the rear wheel+tire diameter is larger than the front it's going to wreak havoc on your traction control as it will always be thinking one set of wheels is spinning faster/slower than the other set.

I always turn mine off so no issue for me! However...if I had to drive in the rain it might then become an issue. That's the only time I leave TC on.

I'd mix 5x115 with 5x114.3 or 5x120 with 5x120.65, but there is no way I'd mix 5x110 with 5x112 unless using wobble nuts.

So is the general consensus that wobble nuts are safe?  Any special care or attention required?  I always use a torque wrench (no impact/torque stick) already.  Is our stock setup hub-centric or lug-centric?

I'm guessing hub, since aftermarket wheels come with a concentric ring.
