P0030 and P0135 Codes
« on: September 21, 2013, 08:47:32 PM »
Boys and Girls - My car decided to throw 2 codes last night.  I drove it home from work with no issues.  Cleaned up the interior and a storm was rolling in so I pulled it into the garage.  The CEL came on when I started the car to pull it into the garage.  It's been on ever since.  After the storm left, I ran the car over to AutoZone and this is what I have:

P0030 - H02S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 1)

I pulled the fuse tonight and it's not blown.

Any guesses?  Bad wiring, bad heater, bad 02 sensor??

Check the connector on the oxygen sensor between the cat and the cylinder head.  Try disconnecting it and then reconnecting, it's worth a try.  Otherwise you might have an O2 sensor that needs to be replaced.

Did anything get wet when you washed it and how was it running before you washed it ?

I didn't wash it. I knew it was going to rain and I was going to drive through the rain the next day.  I cleaned the interior and put the car away before it started raining.  The code came on before it rained. Unlikely it's water as it hadn't been in rain or gotten wet since Labor Day.

I will do. Hoping it's just come loose.

Just checked the wiring.  It looks ok.  The insulation on 1 wire coming out of the pre-cat sensor has a very small crack in it.  The connections look good.  No issues with wiring that I can see there.

The 2nd O2 sensor has a suspect wire.  It isn't broken, but the insulation is clearly broken around one of the wires.  I have pics I will try to post if I can figure out how to sync the new phone!  All other connections look good.

If the insulation is broken, it can let oxygen in and corrode the copper, which leads first to increased resistance and then a broken connection. So that could be your problem (or one of them).

Here are some photos.  Not sure if you can make it out on this link, but the white wire has a small crack in the insulation.  Very small though and may not even go through:

Another look at Sensor 1

Sensor 2 - The insulation for the wire on the left is completely cracked/broken.  However, this one isn't throwing the code.  I still wonder if it's contributing though?

I would undo the gray connector with the light blue cap and check to make sure the male and female ends have not slip down on either end.

Doesn't matter to me.  Thursday is a 5 am day, Wednesday is a 6:30 pm day.  Doesn't matter to me.  I just need to run home and let the dogs out quick at some point during either day.

Provided the sensor gets here!  Oh wait...says it should be waiting for me tonight when I get home!!
