I guess they are testing the fuel for possible performance altering substances.

Seems there would be other ways to resolve that issue. Why not simply force folks to use fuel from the same source, and have an official there to monitor/inspect everything.

Again, not a NASCAR fan anymore, but the old NASCAR gamble to stretch fuel only to start running on fumes on the straights is good drama. Why remove any chance of that?

Is it a safety thing? Are the worried about someone losing engine power and causing a pileup?

I read up on some of this as well.  The reasoning given is - each team is allowed to customize their fuel (within boundaries) to maximize their performance, just like they are with other things.  Using one fuel then leads to using one aero, one chassis etc and then we have spec racing.  So I'm ok with each team using their own mix.  With that, they have to provide a 1L sample to be tested 3 different places, plus a sample for the team to hold, just in case of any questions.  Not every car gets tested every race, but every car that doesn't complete the cool down lap and get back to parc ferme gets tested.  At least, that is how I read it.

Perez got his contract extended another year with Red Bull.
I think he earned that, and with the new regs for next year, his experience will be very valuable in getting the new cars setup for 2022.

Okay there is a red flag in q3 and it looks like the program ends with the mother's  'thank you for watching F1' commercial.  Fast forward through a few commericials and they come back to q3 and finish qualifying.   Well worth waiting for the last few minutes  :)

My amazing wife always tells me about qualifying.  She has some twitter something that she always reads.  I'll try to watch the Q3 and race sometime tomorrow.  I've had a hell of a week.  Total mileage for work is well over 1300 this week, in addition to all the normal stuff...  Road warrior!   Got an Admiral visiting a couple of the Bases this coming week and we need to get things ready.  I'm tired.  Got home after 9PM 4 days this week.  Start at 6 every day.

Sorry to vent.  As you may have seen in another thread, I just invented the Passionfruit Marmalade.   It's a new drink.  It's all the rage.  Join me for one.  It's yummy, healthy, fresh and patent pending.

Goobs.

Race has been delayed several hours, It is 12:15 eastern and they are all clamoring back into their cars for the start.  Raced has been reduced to an hour.  It is still raining just as hard and no one knows if we are going to race or not.  They just said 2 laps and it is an official race?

Latest update:  Red flagged again after two laps behind the pace car.

Under a fancy French word racing conditions which allows for 1/2 points for cars completing 2 laps but less than 75% of the racing distance it can be declared a race.  So that may be it folks.

Oh and Perez was allowed to rebuild his car after his shunt on the way to the grid.  He is currently last.

After all that my DVR stopped before the end of the race.  No problem I thought, I'll record the replay.  ESPN decided not to replay a non race and instead had some other BS but no point in changing the programming to match what they decided to show.

I like how the race didn't officially start so that Perez could re-enter the race after they fixed his car even though he had officially retired but the race did officially start so they could use the time restriction rules.  WTF FIA?  Lets just cherry pick which rules we want when they fit our agenda. Like do they have to give refunds if they don't officially have a race?

You didn't miss anything.

The 2 unofficial laps behind the safety car were identical to the 2 official lap behind the safety car, with the exception of Norris getting a ten second penalty for changing his rear wing.  Changing the transmission after his crash moved him from 10th to 15th.  The rear wing would normally mean he would have to start from the pits, but everyone was already in the pits.  The other option would have been a stop and go but once again everyone was already in the pits.  So he got 10 seconds.  Not sure where he ended up, my best guess would be after Perez who rebuild his car after dropping out.

The real losers were the fans who sat over 5 hours in the pouring rain.

Looks like Norris finished 14th.  Somehow Perez was 19th and Stroll took 20th.

I wonder if Ham will get talked to for this:

Championship-leader Lewis Hamilton was third, and later went on to call the decision to race for two laps a "farce".

"Today was a farce," he wrote on Instagram. "The only people to lose out are the fans. We were sent out for one reason and one reason only."

"We should have just called it quits, not risked the drivers and most importantly refunded the fans who are at the heart of all of our sport."

He ain't wrong.

I think he is.

He simply wanted to keep the Championship gap with Verstappen bigger.
