Cheers arrived yesterday just before lunch, the install would have been finished yesterday but he didn't want to use the XM antenna that came with the kit, he preferred to use the one on the car so we wasted about 3 hours driving around looking for an extension cable for the antenna. Come to find out, Dark Tech had the ability to manufacture one at his work. Since we couldn't locate one, he went to work an made one.

Cheers install is complete. His IPOD adapter is differnt that yours. His uses a video/audio and USB jack. Yours only has a mini-stereo jack in, just like the aux in on the front of your stereo. I'm uploading pictures to Photobucket, post some later. Details to come later also. Cheers should be home about now.

First of all Joe's Garage is still the best!!!!!!! We took over 200 photos. There were a number of firsts -- first Kednwood 8120, first system that had a PAL installed, and because of wanting to use the stock XM antenna (much better than any after market) we wasted time attempting to find one, BUT Dark Tech lived up to his name and saved the day by manufacturing a three foot cable.

One lesson learned, keep an eye on electrical usable and have a battery charger handy...these systems are eclectic hogs and as Joe was in the final stages of the install Cheers battery died...

While the wiring is line a very large bowl of spaghetti, Joe was more than ready for it and his expertise on how all the body parts come apart, but more importantly go together is a MAJOR advantage.

As to the system WOW

Joe's ears are most likely still ringing from when I turned it all the way up

The camera is great, GPS works like a charm --looking into moving the data from the Garmin I have into the one in the 8120, sound and visuals are outstanding, IPod cool, XM was working within 10 minute of calling them, blue tooth worked on the second try and suspect the first failure was operator error

OH YES and anyone who has a chance to test Dee's clam chowder will want to take her home -- great cook and hostests

Yes just before DeepBlueGXP took off to FLA with Chuckdoc and I am loving it -- still working my way through the programing, but the install went very well other than a minor electrical problem. (The battery died with about 10 minutes of testing to go). Took a couple hundred photos and thought I had give a set to Deep before I headed home,but thought he had moved them instead of copied them. THEN in the process of updating the Garmin software I discovered where the Photos were... and with have the photos and script ready for Joe when he gets back this weekend so he can edit/fix it before posting -- Should be posted by Sunday night Monday at the very latest....dragged my feet for almost a year -- wish I had done it sooner!!!

That we did -- We as in DeepBlueGXP (95%) Dark Tech (4.5%) and Cheers (0.5%)

Here is what it looked like before we started -- The plug is is the power/speaker for my great Garmin that is now retired to trips and rental cars...

This is a step-by-step
I arrived at Joe's Garage DeepBlueGXP and Dark Tech were more than ready with all the piece layout out on a table and the garage empty and the heater ready to go

Cheers was ready and willing for major surgery The speaker to the right of the shifter is part of the great Garmin unit that will now be used in rental cars on trip when Cheers can't go too.

Step ONE Rip out the dash -- VERY CARFULLY

Don't for get to unbolt the handle (nice leather JPM) before you go too far

NOR the shifter and boot (more of JPM's handy work here too)

Carefully lift the main section -- and hang it with a piece of heavy wire to the mirror

DeepBlueGXP's phone never stops ringing We need to hire a Secretary for him to make appointments -- Dee gets to pick her though

Next was perparing the wiring harness -- the new radio is 1.5 LB heavier, and there is another XX Lbs in cable as you will see -- need another power upgrade to offset the weight

Backup camera was next -- I've been practicing and this is really amazing

Remove the driver-side tail light

With the light out you can see the channel for the camera wire

Remove plate

This reveals the out end of the wire route

Run a heavy piece of wire through the route connect to camera and pull back through

BUT to thread the camera wire to the 8120 [& other reasons] the back interior panel has to come off --- thank goodnes for DeepBlueGXP's skill here
